UNKLE Sounds - Do Androids Dream Of Electric Beats? - 19-May-05 02:59 AM
I dont agree with the ordering of the cds Shin-Gi-Tai. If you listen carefully they seem to fit better as Tai-Shin-Gi. At the end of Gi a sample says "UNKLE entertainment thanks for listening," then another saying quietly "May the force be with you," and finally a sample of a rocket blasting off.
At the very beginning of Tai the vocoder counts down to the Star Wars theme, then you get another vocoder telling us: "You are listening to UNKLESounds in the mix".
So as far as I am concerned they are ordered Tai-Shin-Gi (this however assumes that the 3 discs are part of the same linear piece). Nonetheless, all 3 are fantastic but Gi is just a little more fantastic and Shin just a little less fantastic.
May the force be with you.
UNKLE Sounds - WW III - UNKLE vs UNKLE - 23-Mar-05 03:01 AM
To me this is the least of the triptych of DJ Soundscapes from UNKLE Sounds.
All up the 7 disc set set me back about $150.
This one has some bangin psych rock early on this gives out to romantic I am the sea, "I am the waves, stuff with happy acoustic guitar.
Roots Manouevre (spelling???) contributes nicely in what i suspect is his expansion on DJ Shadows GDMFSOB. Id bet a million billion dollars that one of those samples of people using foul language is Bette Midler.
A million billion.
The Scratch Perverts contribution is bleedingly obvious on disc 2. This was my first time hearing their stuff and their abrasive style rubs me the wrong way.
But CD2-06 is on my ALL TIME Best of the Best Track Listing.
UNKLESOUNDS* - Big Brother Is Watching - 23-Mar-05 03:01 AM
I got this a time ago and still listen to it regular like.
It is varied, engaging.
And, as a sucker for percussion, it delivers that all over the place.
More live and acoustic first half offset by very clubbish second half.
If you are lucky enough to catch these boys touring - go.
I didnt and I regret it.
Neu! - Neu! 2 - 23-Mar-05 02:27 AM
Were dealing with weirdness here folks. Fur Immer Isnt it - its metronome rock at its best (also see Hands Around My Throat by Death in Vegas)
Gedenkminute is more weirder - but its not what I am talking about. Lila Engel - is super duper.
See those tracks with numbers after them i.e. (something) 16 or (doobiewhacker)78. Well this album (like many) was recorded at 33 1/3 and these tracks have been recorded at 33 1/3 (and appear so) but then Neu! decided to cut primitive remixes of them at 16rpm and 78rpm. And the results range from demonic incantations (Super 16) to whizzy ZZ-Top Chipmunks in space (Super 78).
Hallo Excentrico! is primordial IDM.
The last track, the original Super (at 33 1/3), is bloody good and brings QOTSA to mind immediately.
Germany, 1973, interesting stuff.
Daft Punk - Human After All - 23-Mar-05 02:27 AM
All I can say is that this holds me at arms length while it chants - "LOOK HOW SMART I AM!" at me.
(A aubstantial feat for a CD but nevertheless not what I want to listen to - but it was really cheap so that is a plus)
Because it was so cheap the 4 tracks I dont activeyl dislike justify the price: Robot Rock, Steam Machine, The Brainwasher and Technologic.
The videos to these tracks will probably be amazing.
Until then I can only listen in small doses - when in the mood for a soundsnack.
