Reviews & Discussion:
This is a high BPM hardcore record that has a distinct gothic feel to it. Mainly because of its melody line, which is made up of classical instruments (piano, strings, horn), the usual electronic synth and all in a minor key. Add to that some intense Deathmetal style vocal nonsense and you have a record that really stands out of the crowd.
More please.
Fantastic record. It's mainly a compilation of their best songs from their four previous EP's, some of which have been touched up, and a couple of extra instrumental tracks which will leave you dizzy after they're finished.
These guys are the best songwriters in Australia at the moment, but you'll never hear of them because they're not loud like AC/DC, stylised like Jet or aggro like The Vines. Have a listen and hear what the most genuine Australian sound is like, without all the hype or the effort.
A3 - Munen Mushin is the most original hardcore track I've ever heard and it's really only made of two elements. One is a syncopated kickdrum that plays brutally from start to finish. The second is a seriously distorted 'tune' that is constantly playing in the background which just manages to scratch that proverbial itch.
A track like this is why I rate Sunjammer as one of the best hardcore producers around. The rest of the record is all quality too.
Passenger Of Shit's tracks are all so over-the-top that you can't help but see them as taking the piss out of hardcore in general. Once you think of it that way it's actually pretty funny.
A good way to impress your friends is to play them 'Fucking Dogs Turds Up My Vagina' to give them an idea of where your musical tastes sway. Not that the track title itself would have given it away... | ||||
This is not a CD for those who like to sit in one genre. The original song's release dates cover almost 40 years so an open mind of music is a must. But it's so rewarding when you hear how these modern artists interpret these songs. For example, the cover of Hotel California being sung entrely in French, The Pictures strumming Milkshake on guitar (the riff sounding suspiciously like Wake Up Little Suzy) and the cover of Hyperballad with only a cello and guitar.
It's not a party starter, but more like an exhibition of music and a bit of insight as to how artists can influence other artists.
