Lunatic Calm - Elite Force Remix EP - 18-Aug-03 10:50 AM
Basement Level and Centista were tracks that Lunatic Calm had played at live shows but not previously recorded. sHack of LC remixed them under his Elite Force moniker for this release. Musically it's a bit of a halfway point between the earlier LC big-beat/triphop sound and the more recent tech-funk breaks of EF. Centista was one of the earliest LC tunes, and the remix does it justice, complete with funky breaks and 303s bubbling away. Basement Level on the flip was originally a prototype track that would later mutate into the song Neverstop on EF's Breaking Point album; here it's done as a deep breaks rerub with a great acid breakdown at the end.

Masterful industrial. But then, what else would you expect from FLA? Burbling bass lines, nervous synth arpeggios, vocals ranging from a growl to a tenor to a hiss, and beautiful sweeping ambience. Everything Must Perish is just about perfect, but the entire album is fantastic.
Mario Più - Communication (Somebody Answer The Phone) - 30-Jul-03 05:00 PM
okay production, but an incredibly obnoxious vocal. besides which, i thought we all hated cell phone ringers, who's demented enough to use that as a sample?
Crystal Method, The - Wild, Sweet & Cool - 07-Jul-03 06:10 PM
The Static Revenger mix is the reason to get this record, filtered funky disco house with the occasional 7/8 measure to mess things up. Trivia: the back-masked sample at the end of the SR remix is someone (SR?) saying "Scott and Ken are some funky motherfuckers."

I wish I knew who did this remix. It has a very nu-skool feel, along the lines of Plump DJs, but it doesn't sound polished enough to be them. Great record anyway, fat sawtooth bassline and stabs and very smooth use of the vocal samples.
