Exuviae - Settling Density - 08-Oct-08 12:50 PM
Yes, I agree - a very good album indeed in the ambient-drone guitar-smear mould. Just a corrective to the above: far from 'retiring', Brooks Rongstad went away and explored other musical avenues for a while before returning as Exuviae. He has just had this album and another from the same period - "Response" - re-released by Atmoworks, along with a new album, "The White Underneath". A new wave of guitar-based ambient drone seems to have made his work newly 'refreshed', revaling his work to have been in some ways prescient.

Jesu / Eluvium - Split - 17-Dec-07 02:01 AM
Heavy boot gaze goes up against Ambi orch drone haze. Eluvium's beguiling blend of a post orchestral Stars of the Lid like melodic ambience with a subtle smearing of Hecker heft and Fennesz fuzz wins hands down over Jesu's sludgey grindcore update of the footwear stare. Broadrick brings all the subtlety of Godflesh and Techno Animal to his Jesu project (none), though track a2 is admittedly hard to resist, especially for those who are missing the full-on woozey flange thrill of the Curve, MBV, Ride, Lush tradition. Eluvium unites the best elements of his previous work, and gratifyingly holds the tasteful piano etudes in favour of dirty ambient. Nice pair!

Swod - Gehen - 11-Oct-05 05:35 AM
File next to Porn Sword Tobacco on the same label - similar sonic orientation: tinkles and sweet melodies offset by crackle/static, hinting that all is perhaps not so sweet and tinkly.
