Flemming Dalum - Dance Of The Obscure Robot - 20-Aug-07 08:50 PM
Yet another truly breathtaking italo mix from the Danish man who used to used to traval all the way to Italy to buy hot discs direct from the italo disctributors - and boy were those trips worth it!! The mix starts out with loose funky slo-beat italo, then launches into a full mix of rare and very original sounding tracks, especially the likes of Blackway, a totally new discovery for me. Its great to hear a DJ put out a mix like this which is truly from the heart, he has decided to take a gamble and not play just the "safe" italo tracks, but some real innovative tracks, giving the listener a fantastic selection of different italo sounds. One of my favourite mixes of all time.

RAF (5) - Self Control - 19-Apr-07 03:29 PM
My mum was a synth pop and disco addict, so i was brought up with this track. I still remember listening to it on trips out in our Ford Granada when it was newly released in 1983! And up until about a week ago i was certain this was sung by a female (and i'm talking about the Laura Brannigan version either). His voice has a very distinctive soft note. A total surprise when i saw the music video! Such a lovely track, full of memories and melodies. Good danceable italo club music.

Sylvester - Stars - 10-Apr-07 02:31 AM
This LP is another one of those amazing electronic disco discoveries for me. "I Need Somebody to Love Tonight" is the most sublime epic hypnotic electronica masterpiece. Most associate Sylvester with hi-NRG, and with Patrick Cowley in production maybe something upbeat, but this laid back track contains a wonderful looped dreamy acid line with haunting strings, and Sylvester's vocal is silky smooth. This was apparantly a bit of an anthem at the Paradise Garage, i can just imagine the dancefloor going into a tranced out frenzy to this. Truly glorious.

Memory Control One - Basic - 07-Apr-07 08:19 AM
A crazy instrumental only track, this is nice and slow at around 112bpm. Classic Italo disco tune from 1983 in the tradition of the mythologic italian club Typhoon. Invented and arranged by the italian dj Beppe Loda in collaboration with the great musician Francesco Boscolo (Egotria). Combining underground electro sounds of the 80s with that Italo disco touch - its a cheesy but fun synth instrumental that is a bit of a hidden gem. A great track for opening a set with.

A Number Of Names - Sharevari - 07-Apr-07 08:19 AM
Re-presses of this track have re-surfaced in March 2007 around London, not sure if they are bootlegs or legitimate releases, they are the Capriccio version. Legend has it that the originals were limited to 500, and sold to club members at the Charivari parties held in Detroit c.1981 which this track was written about. A Number of Names changed the spelling to "Sharevari" to avoid any possible conflict with the Charivari party promotors. A lot of party promotors in Detroit around this time (including Derrick May and Kevin Sauderson who were struggling with thier Deep Space parties) were just teenagers, but were still raking in the cash. They were living the dream and buying top designer clothes and flash cars. This track epitimises that dream for those teens who otherwise lived in a harsh environment.
