Radio Band - Radio Rap
Mar 11, 2009
It is well known, that Ron Hardy played european stuff like this back in the days. And also this rare record was played by him in the Music Box. You can find it on his mixes, check out the playlists yourself. A very limited number of copies of this record were released. The leader of that band was Michele Lopez. What else to say? It's an excellent record. This band was a combo of several Italian radio DJs of Florence. All of them were working for a local pirate radio called Radio Fantasy. This was released after the moderately successfull project by The Band of Jocks (a bunch of DJs from Milan).
This LP is worth searching for. If you are inside electronic music, for sure you will find inside only one notable track, but this one is THE one. I'm speaking about "Time Centre", a track you can find on much of those nowdays famous and highly collectable cosmic music tapes mixed by the italian DJ's Baldelli, Loda, Ebreo... "Time Centre" is one of those unknown-well known pieces, nobody is thinking finding it in a so called rock LP like this one. Imagine a green-silver martian with antennas on his head entering a country & western bar, full of cowboys, proud of their Stetsons. That feeling it is, finding such an electronic beauty on a LP full of rock music. Trust me, skipp directly to "Time Centre" and forget about the rest. All you rockers out there, forgive me ;-)
Another bit of rare Transmat. One mix of this made it on to the "Techno 2" compilation on 10 Records, notable for Psyche's "Elements", which at the time didn't get a conventional release elsewhere. However it's Magic Juan's mix which is the one you want, not the original himself. You could think: Timbaland. It's got rolling synthsoul bassline, bossa percussion and, whoa, what basslines these record have! Very well produced. This is elegantly and stylish. Unfortunately this one got never repressed on Transmat. Worth diggin for this one.
Plez's "Can't Stop" was one of the reasons for Steve Beckett, Rob Mitchell and Robert Gordon to found Warp Records, the now famous and independent UK record label, in Sheffield in 1989. Nowadays "Can't Stop (The Acid Rainforest mix) is considered an alltime classic.
But also Plez's follow up 12" called "Thing For You" worth a check. Same high quality, same phat bassline that compliments a sick tribal beat (with the well known sing along - "Ah-Ha, I Can't Stop!"), and here you have another absolute house classic. Absolutely brilliant and totally underrated, because everyone is thinking on "Can't Stop". | ||||
