Bernard Badie - Time Reveals - 13-Oct-08 01:14 AM
This is a brilliant record.
"Time Reveals" has an urgency driven by an early chicago acid style of percussion. Thats why I bought it (after finding it for £1.00 in a local shop a few years back). The strings are clean, simple and full of emotion, with the simple vocal refrain, "I think its time that you know, how my love, feels for you" drifting over the piece. Towards the end the strings are subtly modulated before leaving us with stripped down percussion.
This is an amazing track, and when I saw its value I was shocked - and am even more shocked now to see so many people jumping on the bandwagon in an attempt to sell their copies at extortionate prices. I'm keeping mine - I still don't have anything quite like it.
For those keen on checking it out it may interest you to know it has recently been re-released on Mojuba records.
Jerome Derradji vs OK MA - SOS - 29-Aug-08 04:21 AM
This is an awesome record, everything about it exudes quality, from the simple yet rich percussion to the feeling behind the vocals. The synth snippets are reminiscent of Visage's "Fade to Grey" adding a totally different dimension to the track.
When I first heard it I was immediately put in mind of Carl Craig, because of the stripped down disco/afrobeat drum patterns meeting something more electronic. The two differences really complement each other well and go to create something truly unique.
Troubleshooter - EP1 - 20-Dec-05 04:08 PM
Brilliant - got a copy today and its just mindblowing. Really clear pads and rhythm patterns are woven tightly with degraded and messed up sounds that range from rhythms to acid lines. I had to check my needle for fluff a couple of times on Micro Dotz before the precisions of the pads set me straight that it wasn't my system playing up. Spacemission 1 is an absolute killer, again with awsome rhythms and pads. The whole thing puts me in mind of a sci-fi movie, but i don't think the movie has yet been made that would do this justice.
Archeology - 06-Jul-05 02:53 PM
Archeology bought into a couple of ideas. Being based in York, with a history being pre-viking, where every dig into the ground finds an artefact, as well as the studio at the time being below ground level, it was a natural name for the label. The style of music also harked back to an older time with use of hardware being the mainstay and computers (atari 540) only used for the most basic of sequencing. Lo tech methods and inspiration from some of techno's earliest pioneers also helped to decide upon the name.
Robokid - The Robokid E.P. - 28-Jun-05 09:18 AM
This was recorded in the basement of York's now defunct Pure Sheng record shop. His first foray into electronic music production, Robokid used an old atari and analogue production techniques such as effect feedback loops. The result is a really gritty, Detroitesque sound. Pressings were limited to round about the 200 mark.
