Jeff Mills - Exhibitionist

Having seen this DVD advertised when it first came out, at the time I wasn't as interested in Techno as I am now. Admittedly, I've filtered out a lot of the garbage I used to listen to, and have picked up on a much more worthwhile selection of music. This DVD certainly deserves a watch from anyone remotely interested in Techno, or even DJ'ing to that matter.
It is without doubt that Jeff Mills will go down in history as one of the Pioneers of Techno. One of the modern masters, responsible for some of the defining records of the past ALMOST two decades. The Exibitionist DVD shows everyone who watches it exactly why this is. Three decks, one mixer, a lot of black cloth and a certain Mr Mills is what youre looking at pretty much the whole time, but the music comming from the speakers is some of the best techno you're ever going to hear. From Obvious big ones like The Bells or Alarms to the unreleased gems we never got our hands on, each track is put together in the way only Jeff Mills can. Don't get me wrong, there's mistakes here and there but personally I feel that makes it better, more real. Perfect for a party, you can put the DVD on and just let it play through for a couple of hours, start it again and play for another few hours, start it again. Well you get the idea! All in all, one of the more important electronic music DVDs of the past few years as it shows exactly where it all came from, and it showcases one of the masters doing what he does best - 3 deck Techno Wizardry.
Richie Hawtin - DE9 | Transitions

Well, what can I say about this other than it's a modern day masterpiece. Anyone who classes themselves as a fan of electronic music should consider this as an album to have in their collection.
I still remember the first time I put the DVD in, switched on the 5.1 surround sound, and heard the intro swirling round the room... it's like a spaceship is landing on top of your house! Im not going to go into detail talking about every track thats on the album, because lets face it I'd be here for about a week, but the whole concept of this album proves yet again that Richie Hawtin is the true pioneer of electronic music. Albums like this which push the boundaries of what is possible with technology and music should inspire artists and listeners alike, and thankfully it shows what quality there is out there as opposed to the mindless drivvel dominating the charts today. | ||||
An absolute MUST for DJs and producers alike, the 200 loops available to use for your own pleasure are 100% Techno gold! The locked grooves contain a small part of each track on the album, with everything from the swirly soundscapes right through to the pounding, mechanical stuff that you know are going to give the speakers a good workout.
Speedy J has given the fans the ultimate opportunity here by giving access to the core of his album, and allowing us to re-create it in any way we see fit. I love the fact that I can add that extra bit of oomph into a mix by dropping in one of the loops, instantly giving it an extra layer of techno squelch!
The only fault I can think of is that due to the number of loops on the LP, and the fact that the designer decided to use a font that is a nightmare to read it can be pretty hard to find the name of the loop you are playing, but thats not really a major problem.
All in all though, if youre a fan of Loudboxer then you really should hunt this down for your collection.
