Alec Empire - Robot L.O.V.E - 27-Sep-07 08:42 PM
This track might be slightly better if Alec hadn't done it. But that may be pushing it a bit. What happened to making good experimental electronic music and acid techno? Has Alec really run out of ideas that any music he makes is reduced to this? Maybe if he didn't spend so much time worrying about fitting into his tight leather pants we might have seen some better results. Ice (Dub) is the only decent track I have yet to hear. I hope he can top that.

Nullsleep - Click Bleep Click - 21-Jul-07 09:39 AM
This is a pretty interesting release. It's very different from any of Nullsleep's other releases. It's composed of sampled and processed field recordings (maybe from one of Nullsleep's visits to Japan?). My Think Skin is my favorite track. It makes me think of walking down Tokyo streets as you peer into the arcades and watch children playing the games that most of us forgot about years ago. This isn't chiptunes in it's traditional sense, although it is full of bleeps and bloops. This is a very experimental release and something which shouldn't be overshadowed by Nullsleep's more upbeat releases full of 8-bit dance anthems.

Crossover - Fantasmo - 09-May-07 01:40 AM
This is a weird album. I was into Electroclash for a while, back when it had it's fifteen minutes of fame in the UK, and I came across this album when I read a review for it in Mixmag (not one of the best music mags out there. It's probably the Rolling Stone of electronic music (in my opinion), which means most of its content is ads and shit. It's entertainment, go figure). Anyway, I must have listened to this album from start to finish a number of times, and I'm still not sure whether I love it or hate it. It has its moments, and most of the tracks have a catchy hook or two (and lyrics on some), which makes them worth listening to (at least once if at all). If I can say that I love any of the tracks on this album, the first three stand out. The rest of the album isn't as great. I'd say if you like Electroclash, and you're looking for something that's a bit out there, pick this up. Otherwise, it's probably nothing you should put on your "must have" list.

Autechre - Tri Repetae++ - 16-Apr-07 02:33 PM
I love this record. This is probably my favorite Autechre album. The combination of deep, think pads, weird glitchy beats and assorted noises, is genius! When I first bought this record I didn't know that the second disc was two separate EP's. I'm not sure what Autechre's intention was for releasing this version with the two EP's, but they certainly go well with one another. Both discs seem as though they were meant to be one long track, everything just flows. You could listen to this album without being aware of when one track finished and the next began.

Most people would probably say that this album doesn't compare to a release like Amber, but I think this record deserves more credit. There may not be any hard driving beats, chaotic interludes or breakdowns, and it may seem fairly bland at times when compared to albums like Amber or Draft 7.30, but it definitely has a genuine appeal and a whole lot to offer.

Front 242 - Pulse - 12-Apr-07 03:48 PM
From what I've seen, people's opinions about this album are divided. Some love it, some hate it, and maybe some don't care either way. I love it. This album is amazing, from start to finish. Compared to their older releases, the production quality isn't as lofi, and it's a lot more solid. The arrangements and structure of tracks seem like they were meticulously planned. Maybe it was done with software, or maybe old analog synths. But, judging by the list of equipment on their site, I'd say it was some of both. My guess as to why long time 242 fans might not like this album is because it's not as heavy as their older releases. It's a bit more accessible to someone who isn't a huge fan of the Industrial/Electro-Industrial genres. It's more of an Electro/IDM release, although calling it IDM may be a bit of an understatement. Whether you're a long time 242 fan, or just discovering them for the first time, give this album a listen. It's definitely worth it!
