E-Z Rollers - Rancho Notorious / In The City - 12-May-08 08:35 AM
This is a fantastic record.
Rancho Notorious has a very "cowboy western" feel, beginning with a sample (presumably from the film of the same name), then building with a few bars of fast kick drums and snares to a climax of cowboy guitar, synths, horns and a really nice bassline (with a laughing prospector-type voice interspersed throughout.)
"He said, a measly thousand bucks for me is much too little. I'm worth a lot more than that. That's right, he said that. Then he added another zero to the thousand. There isn't anyone got the guts to face that killer, eh? At least, it's been that way 'till now."
In the City, on the other hand, is pure liquid funk. Starting off with hats and vocoded vocals singing "gonna be a good time, gonna be a high time, down in the city", it builds to a funky high with disco-like vocals that's hard not to dance to.
Total Science - Pop Psychology E.P - 12-May-08 08:25 AM
"Okay, pop psychology, you want to know what this is really about?"
Pop Psychology is a great tune, with an intro composed of arcade machine style noises. It then drops to just a synth laying out the main melody of the track, then builds to an energetic but cheerful climax with arcade noises aplenty. It's good fun.
Rainbow Kiss is more chilled out and jazzy, with soulful female vocals throughout. There's not much else to say about it. It doesn't go too high or too low, it's just a nice relaxing track.
Spy Hunter is very synth-driven, a little gritty, and generally upbeat. It samples some voices which are mostly unintelligible but the phrase "your time is up" can be heard.
Swan Lake is energetic, with funky guitars and minor horns. There's a vocal sample, but I can't tell what's being said. It's a really fun tune all the same.
Resound / Macc - Crystal Dreams / Alternate Misery - 12-May-08 08:11 AM
Crystal Dreams starts slow, but builds to a gritty, synth-driven high. The drop has some minor synth behind a haunting male vocal singing "where is my love?" The result is a dark tune that's very interesting.
Alternate Misery starts with ambient "spooky machinery" style noise, and then (with no build-up whatsoever) the drums start. It is essentially one long drum solo from start to finish with a single drop composed of flute, piano and more ambient noise.
Both tunes are pretty cool, but Alternate Misery is absolutely ridiculous.
