Amber is my favourite Autechre record, I first heard in someones flat a good ten years ago and stole it, *cough*. While Autechres modern works can hardly be called ambient this record can. And it's all the way up there with best of the genre, peaking on Further which is a tour de force of their distinct drum sounds layered with vast soundscapes. It's hard to compare this record with contemporary works, it was years ahead of its time. To me it still stands out, sounding as fresh now as it did back in the day.

A friend of mine brought this to my attention, I believe he had gotten it off a "back to mine" album. I played it off and on for about a year, it kept growing on me. And for the past couple of years I have come to realize that is the greatest pop track of our century yet. I never knew it was a cover of the Smiths, never heard them, before right now, when I logged on to discogs for the first time. And the only reason I did that was to find out if this Schneider band/person had made any other songs. Funny.
