Messy release history on this one - first slated to be KDJ 16 (and probably released on whites at the time, although I can't verify that), this record was pulled after the "controversy" over KDJ 15. It then appeared on a 200-copy white label, JAN 001, and got serious word of mouth that was encouraging enough to convince Kenny to press it here. It doesn't actually say "KDJ 30" in the matrices, but rather had that number invented for it by long-suffering Moodymann distributors.

On my copy A1, B1, and B2 are all effectively identical tracks. I've always suspected this is a mispress, but I haven't met many other people with this record.

The perfect KDJ track, this was repressed on Forevernevermore, but first appeared here as one of Kenny's periodic white-label only releases, >200 and "available" mostly in Europe and Detroit. Much like JAN 001, the feedback was so positive that he couldn't help releasing it, but unlike that record, the reputation is deserved. Sweet, sweet, sweeeeeeeeeet gospel with KDJ himself on piano.

The repressing of this record, IIRC, subtracts "I Feel Joy" and Theo's track and adds tracks from the only always-in-print KDJ record, his 12" for Mike Banks on Soul Sounds.

Time for another nerdy annotation: there are four pressings of this release: 21A/21B, 21A/9B, 21A/23B, and 21A (one-sided), all of which obviously differ only in their B-side. 21B appeared as "The Set Up" on "Forevernevermore", 9B is the only track without a Prince sample from KDJ 9, and has also been featured as a B-side to KDJ 10, and 23B is an awesome original that you really want to hear. 21A/9B and 21A/23B were, as far as I know, only distributed in Europe, especially Germany and Holland.
