Oddly enough, I almost like this better than the accompanying album release. Abacus 2 is a remarkably upbeat tune with a 2step beat interlaced with nice IDM keyboards that keeps your head nodding throughout; nothing special but catchy and simply charming.
Even though some of this promo release sounds like it was a left-over idea, it still comes over as fresh and raw, and contains some truly excellent unfinished structures that simply rock, unlike the things Mr. Jenkinson has produced lately.

I remember distinctly when I first heard this track, a full year before it became such a huge hit. I had just gotten back from Zurich and went straight to the open-air party of a Vienna Film Production company. Peter Kruder was on the Decks and doing fine, but playing nothing I particularly cared for. This was the one and only track I danced to. And for 6 months I simply could not find out what the hell it was until I heard it on the radio one afternoon.
Anyways, I finally saw them live a year later, they were horrible, just plain overblown Synthie-D garbage, and that pretty much settled that :)

Really beautiful collection of tracks. Standouts are Phlax by Jega and of course the two BoC tracks. Watch for the bonus, somewhat hidden tracks, a very minimal ambient one by Gescom and pure whimsy by Jega.

The release party was held in a streetcar depot and featured Le Car, Ectomorph, Ultradyne and others. A streetcar was made available as a shuttle service to the depot. As compensation, the company was given 500 CDs, intended only for fare dodgers.
