François De Roubaix - Jeff (Bande Originale Du Film) - 29-Mar-06 07:38 PM
No clue what this movie 'Jeff' is about but the b side of this 7 inch makes me wonder. The title, 'Poursuite à Anvers' indicates this could be some kind of car chase track. François de Roubaix combined nervous -nearly funky- drums, melodic violins and monotonous trumpets and it keeps going on and on. It probably all ends up in tragedy. Nonetheless this is one of the best musical pieces i've heard from this composer. For this track alone this score deserves a remastered re-release.
Swod - Gehen - 08-Sep-05 02:35 AM
Swod is an one trick pony. Basically all tracks on the 'Gehen' album are a soothing combination of glitch, minimal piano and environmental noises. Is it bad then? No way. This album is challenging so you can play it when your intelligent friends are around. 'Gehen' is at the same time very inoffensive. Ideal when your mum comes over. Great album.
Moondog (2) - Moondog Remixed No. 1 - 12-Mar-05 05:25 PM
Don't get fooled by this Mr Scruff remix. It's better known as just 'Get a move on' and was released in 1999 as part of the 'Keep it unreal' album. Nothing new there. This set of remixes is released to introduce the music of Moondog to a new generation. I think there is no need to do it this way. The combination of Moondog's odd rhythms with classical music is still listenable. If the kids dig new classical music from bands like Efterklang they will dig Moondog too. Just check Moondog's originals.
Rebelski - Thanks For Your Thoughts - 14-Feb-05 07:48 PM
Don't get fooled by your first impression of this record: It is wrong. The Steve Reich-like piano playing, the subtile use of other (well balanced) sounds and the nearly funkiness get compensated with an overload of tension and soul. This guy must score a movie. I think he will be good at it.
Tussle - Kling Klang - 22-Nov-04 02:50 AM
I do not expect Tussle to get a hit single out of this record but -oh boy- is this a solid release. Tussle isolate the rhythms out of A Certain Ratio/Liquid Liquid and infuse it with a healthy dose of dub music. It all results in a selection of fine instrumentals 'for the hips' which deserve to be played very loud. Even the more adventurous cut and scratch DJs might like this. This is a collection of rhythms for people who want something else. Go check.
