Matthew Dear - Dog Days: The Robsoul Remixes - 10-Sep-08 09:52 AM
I can only shake my head at Spectral and wonder what they were thinking. The original version of Dog Days was just so great that to release these, in my opinion, very sub-par and uninspired mixes is to do a dis-service to the original.
The vocals which went amazingly with the original mix sound completely out of place on this release, and in particular on the Sneak remix. The tracks plods along from start to finish with little to no fanfare in between. This Chris Carrier effort was the only one that seemed to warrant a re-listen in the future.
My love for the original may be clouding my judgement on this one, however what started off as the Concorde, and had me hoping for at least a private jet, seems really to have been stripped down to a glider here. I guess that's why these are called the "Robsoul" Remixes. Soul is exactly what they've been robbed of...

Dominik Eulberg and Gabriel Ananda have hit the nail on the head with this remix. A beautiful track. It knocks you back as soon as it starts with a deep driving bass, that slowly fades out only to come back in just as hard, but this time accompanied with what sounds like a choir of angels.
Fans of James Holden's remix of 'Into the Dawn' by Accadia will really like this remix effort put forth by Eulberg and Ananda.
The Chris Woods re-edit is a decent remix in its own right as well. A slowed up number that would work very well at the end of the night...
Jussi Soro - Backlash - 12-Oct-06 06:20 AM
While Jussi's style may be listed as uplifting trance with influences by progressive house and techno, it certainly does not come through in his production. This release sounds as if it was recorded on location back in '98. This is not to say it's not a decent release, it just sounds slightly dated. For those who dig the earlier trance compilations like Gatecrasher Red and Paul Oakenfold's release in the Tranceport/Transport series for example, this will be right up your alley. If that's the case, grab your glowsticks and head for glory.
Dahlbäck & Dahlbäck - Sweden 1 Canada 0 - 29-Sep-06 02:41 AM
Does Forsberg truly 'love the acid'? Nobody really knows, and he ain't talkin! But that does little to take away from this very slamming A side! Think Josh Wink's 'Higher State' meets Richie Hawtin's 'Slak\Kriket' chugging along at a solid 125bpm. It's one of those special tracks that help make peaktime in the club a cut above the rest of the night. Things get slowed down a bit on the flip side with a couple of electro/synth tracks that move things along in their own right. Who knows, but just maybe, one day Richie Hawtin will respond with a record where Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffee and Mark Messier bring acid starved clubbers to their knees in a 303 induced frenzy!

Two very decent tracks laid down here by the Wighnomy Bros. They both contain that deep Wighnomy bass, that just seems to draw you unsuspectingly into the song. As noted, side a contains a sample of the previously well used Jungle Brothers track "I'll house you". For the real gem on this record however, flip it over and check out the fade-in/fade-out job they've done with the Marvin Gaye sample. Classic Boot! Can't explain the link to the pic of Comedian Sarah Silverman on the record tho... bootlegging faces now too apparently.
