Various - Trust. Belief. Love. Respect. - 28-Oct-05 03:02 PM
This is a grand compilation of a variety of dub and reggae styles, with some rather odd tracks thrown into the mix. Some tracks are very interesting blendings of dub with electronics, like "Step Like Pepper" and "Je Me Mentis". The track by The Slackers has a very slow ska beat, feeling more organic than Manasseh Meets The Equalizers track. Ruts DC, who have a lot of weird feedback on their guitars and vocals, adding a psychedelic rock feel to the track, almost seem out of place on this after The Slackers. But even odder is the final track, a really cheesy alt.dance.rock sounding track. I feel odd placing all the blame at the feet of Jimmy Cauty, but I doubt Martha And The Muffins had anything to do with the final cut.

But on the good side, Don Letts does a superb job remixing Scientist, and the Clashs Bankrobber dub is beautifully mellow. The remix work on 10 Tons Of Dope is great, and was the first track I really got lodged in my head from this compilation. Thomas Fehlmann did a splendid job in the hip-hop of Monkeytribe, creating a downtempo-dubby revision.

If you run across this, definitely grab it. I rather doubt it made its way into many stores, as the only times Ive seen this mentioned was on radio shows.

This is a great collection, not a track disappoints. Ranging from Alexandroid’s great use of tweaked vocals to the creepy sounds of PCP, from the quirky-fun Aphex Twin-ish Roricat tune, to the Kubikov / Milyutenko collaboration (which seems to sample from Yann Tiersen’s Amélie soundtrack), but staying mostly within the quiet, blissed-out sounds of warm IDM. Pleasant music for calm days.

J Majik - FabricLive. 13 (Radio Mix) - 23-Jan-04 08:19 AM
This is a decent mix, starting with what seems to be J Majiks Delerium bootleg, which leads to the most awkward segue in the whole mix. The rest of the set is better, more of J Majiks style of dark, rolling tunes.

Karsh Kale - Liberation - 20-Jan-04 11:56 AM
This is a beautiful album - I really was happy to see Karsh Kale had more to add to the sound of the Asian Massive style. Sparse vocals interweave with electronic programming, strings, and Indian instrumentation. If you liked his last album or anything in the Indian Electronica vein, I highly recommend this album.

Various - Autobot: Electro In The Future - 20-Jan-04 11:13 AM
This is a great electro compilation, all tracks only found on Satamile vinyl previously. No electro-clash, no clubber tracks, just electro. Some tracks get dark and creepy, some are more positive. Also, my copy of the CD has an 11th track, by E.M.S. (Electro Music Specialists) listed as Take My Time / EP 02.
