Evil Nine - They Live! - 28-Feb-09 03:35 AM
Whatever went wrong between "You Can Be Special, Too" and "They Live!", its not the music itself. Evil Nines tracks still rock the floor despite clinging to their usual formula. What ruins most of the tracks on this album are the various guest vocalists who distract from the Evils goods. There also is a digital-only bonus release including DJ edits and, most important, instrumental versions, though that means that you have to pay even more money just to fix the album into an half-way enjoyable state.
Fluke - Risotto - 15-Jul-07 10:46 AM
After listening to "Absurd" on the Tomb Raider soundtrack (the unmixed version of the Chemical Brothers "Galaxy Bouce" being the only reason I picked it up in the first place... really!), I wondered if there was more like this from them, so I picked up this album and gave it a spin.
While "Absurd" was quite similar to the version I already knew, it was the rumbling and unstoppable bassline of "Atom Bomb" that crushed any doubt of whether or not this CD was worth the purchase. What an awesome track!
At the same time, its sort of the climax on the album, with "Kitten Moon" and "Reeferendrum" still standing above the other tracks. Its not that the album is weak by any means, but once you have been exposed to the sonic radiation of Flukes "Atom Bomb", the other tracks cant stand the comparison.
You can always hit the Back button to get some more of course. You know you want to!
Planet Funk - Static - 09-Apr-07 04:07 AM
On "Non Zero Sumness", Alex Neri and friends asked us, Where Is The Max? The question about "Static" should be, Where Is The Funk? As minimal is hailed as the new progressive, this album almost completely lacks everything people worshipped the first two albums for. Weak vocal performances, empty basslines, dull songs - an overall uninspired performance.
If you are looking for some "Funk", go check out Cicadas album. This one here is a complete dud.
Evil Nine - FabricLive. 28 - 30-Dec-06 03:41 PM
If you love Evil Nine for their "You Can Be Special, Too" album and their (rather formulaic but nevertheless great) remixes, stay away from this one and rather pick up their Y4K DJ mix. There is way too much electro punk in this one to really enjoy it, and most of the time their set reminds me of a collection of Switch remixes - chopped up beyond recognition or enjoyment. For me, this album is the greatest disappointment of 2006.
KLF, The - No More Tears - 22-May-06 07:04 AM
Unlike one would imagine, the Radio Edit isnt just an out-faded edit of the full mix but was instead rearranged as well. Given the rarity of this promo, its quite surprising that it has never appeared on any of the more famous bootlegs ("Lost Sounds Of MU" etc.). Not The KLFs greatest track but a nice addition to any collection.
