Venise
Aug 10, 2008
One of the most outstanding personalities of Electro-Italo scene! Venise used to host a radio show back in the 80's and met her future husband (DJ) Franco in the music studio. They formed the label SuperRadio Records and in the early 80's prototyped what many call early House and Electro sound! The records released by SuperRadio possess a unique quality of clever concepts, unusual execution of ideas and innovative visual imagery. Venise "Playboy" 12" was released as a campy picture-disc with a collage photo of the starlet with Lawrence of Arabia! Other releases stood out just as much. Most of the vinyls were in colour or had very unusual artwork. True gems for collectors of electronic music!
Captain Torkive - Gayrock / Cupsicum Jam
Aug 10, 2008
GayRock is one of the best pre-electronic Italo records, sort of a cross between:
David Bowie and The Passengers! The lyrics are priceless. Captain Torkive sings something like: "and you know why those boys are in the night... You see them, you like them, you wanna try... Paint your face with more lipstick and dress your body to be chic! You belong to GayRock! GayRock, GayRock" He continues semi-talking/semi-singing with a heavy Italian accent something about how "they look like a strange girl.. but she's not a girl, such as this my son. She's a new type they invented, who belongs to GayRock!" Amusingly, I think this might have been his way of describing the Glam era, not while not fully understanding it. Cupsicum Jam is incredible as well, it's full of lyrics on how he's forced to sing this last song, just because people really like it... In the beginning he sings: "This is not a song, It's a Capsicum Jam." He also gives the impression that he's inconvenienced by "singing" to us, and goes on to say how he hates to write songs with "stupid usually words". He declares that this is his last song, "only because you want to know". (I'm sure those who love Italy know about Capsicum:) | ||||
