Odd Nosdam - Level Live Wires - 05-Oct-07 07:00 PM
Level Live Wires is absolutely beautiful yet mysteriously unsettling and eerily emotive. It is complete magic. I have been a longtime fan of Odd Nosdams work, be it with cLOUDDEAD, as a solo composer or remix commander (who took BOC to new heights). The Jimi Hendrix of the MPC -- always in tune and on time. With long lost memories captured in all of the attics of the world, Level Live Wires greets them with open arms and lays claim as their soundtrack. The golden gramophone spins endlessly as the sun catches specks of dust that land on everything -- perfect artifacts, perfect effects. Heart, soul and groove for mental treks.
Ocean Blue, The - The Ocean Blue - 24-Aug-07 08:03 AM
I bought this in late fall/early winter 1989 on cassette at my local indie record shop -- the very same store I had been patronizing since childhood and eventually got a job at... but i digress. THe Ocean Blue literally changed my life. The impact of the opener "Between Something And Nothing" became my "teen theme" and I was mad mad mad about girls. This track would kick off many a "I love you" mix tape. The entire album flows perfectly, rich with such beautiful and glorious melodies that kept me hooked. Sure, some of the lyrics are a bit trite, but that had zero effect on my absolute worship of the album. To me, they (along with Modern English), became the ruler by which all other "alternative rock" bands would measure. Sure, I loved U2, R.E.M. (the college radio staples of the day) but The Ocean Blue were "my band" in the sense that, when you grow up in a town of 33,000 people, you are exposed to very little, and each discovery is a uniquely guarded celebration of ones identity. So thats it. The Ocean Blue influenced me for years and years and when listening to their debut the nostalgia becomes so vivid I cannot help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.
Wisp - NRTHNDR - 27-Nov-05 11:50 AM
Next to Luisine, Wisp is by far and away one of the finest producers of IDM/DnB/Electronic music. Indeed, his production techniques are flawless, while his programs, beats, percussion, and synth sounds are light years above the status quo. NRTHNDR is, from start to finish, a sound adventure. Headphones are essential to the experience -- a lush, slick and spellbinding rocker that never fails to engage the listener. But what do I know, I just finished up my 12th consecutive listen...
Morgan Caney & Kamal Joory - Darling - 05-Jul-04 02:50 PM
Is this the best 7" ever released by CCO? IMHO, YES! I have spent so much time with these two songs (one being a time-stretched version of the first) that i have built an entire movie around them. This movie has yet to be filmed, but the script is being hammered out as we speak....
Arovane - Tides - 05-Jul-04 02:35 PM
"Tides" is essential listening and my favorite Arovane release. As a whole, the album is perfectly balanced, taking on so many vivid images of warm and tranquil places. Christians guitar flourishes adds an extra element of organic, emotive melody to an already rich composition. I read that this album was inspired by a trip Mr. Zahn took to the Mediterranean. What an amazing translation! "Tides" is perfect prologue to CCOs flawless legacy of promoting and releasing some of the best melodic electronic music in the world. RESPECT.
