Reviews & Discussion:

Another version of this 45 exists where the artist is listed as "DJ Craver".
After Super Rat Motorcycle Mike on Hodisk this was the second released hip record out of the Bay Area (Oakland) of the US. This was independantly released and quite unusual as it was released as a 10 inch. A bit of a rarity and quite unknown, but worth tracking down, with it nice synth break and chants of "Tally Ho!" over old school raps, similar to releases at the time (1981). It even comes in a custom made printed sleeve.. nice!
There are three presses of this records in circulation. The first press was released as "Fantasy" but dues to conflicting names had to be changed to "Fantasy III". These initial presses therefore had the "III" written in on red ink on the label. The second press had the correct name on the label. Both these presses have Truetone etched in the run out groove. In the 90's the second press was bootlegged - this press does not have Truetone in the runout groove.
There are two presses of this record in circulation, a yellow label press and a white label press. It is thought the yellow press was the first press, with the white press being printed at a later date. I would have to say "Boling Point" is one of my top 5 hip hop tracks out of Canada, but its all about the beat, and I dont think any of their other tracks came close to this one.
Osé - Computer Funk Mar 21, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
There are two presses of this record in existence for the completist out there. One distributed by Bound Sound Records and another by Kenyon Entertainment Corporation.
They are exactly the same except the distribution details are different as is the typeface.
Used to be hard track to find and was highly sort after in electro circles but with the advent of online stores makes quite a regular occurence these days. An electro classic.
Kim Lamour / Johnny Shaka - Love Maker / Shake Your Pants Mar 21, 2007 (edited over 2 years ago)
The stand out tune on this 12" is the Johnny Shaka tune "Shake your Pants" a nice piece of electro funk with vocoders, which makes it quite sort after. This record had a run of 5000 units and made the top 40 in Canada when it was released.
New Kraze - I Got It Girl Sep 06, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
The reason to get this 12" is for the B side track "We Want To Rock You" - which also appeared on the Flynamic Force EP "I Got It Girl" and "Love Games" are slow jams which make me cringe even today. If you see it pick it up for the b-side as this is easier (and usually cheaper) to pick up than the Flynamic Force EP.
Giant Panda - Just Cause May 04, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
This record was not available for commerical release. It can be obtained by buying the "Fly School Reunion" CD from various outlets in Japan or from Thes One directly if you purchased other items. No doubt the hardest Giant Panda release to get and will be a collectors items in years to come.
Various - Spyder D Presents Battle Of The Raps Mar 10, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
"This album came about as I wanted to get back into running a label as I had initially done at the start of my career. I was the first rapper to start his own label, so I wanted to be the first to get a distribution deal with a non-rap label. So I hooked up with Eddie O'Lochlin of Next Plateau, and came up with the concept of "Battle of the Raps" which wasn't really anybody battling against each other, but battling for attention of the public eye as they were all unknown on a national scale.

Butch Deyo was my co-producer on "Smerphie's Dance" and a talented musician/singer who was originally part of "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll" fame with Vaughan Mason & Crew. The PBC Crew was some cats from Laurelton, Queens that used to battle at house parties with Mikey D and his crew (LA Posse), including my brother, Spyder C. DJ Divine every one knows from his Infinity Machine days as the cats with the most powerful sound system in NY. We did the entire album at Power Play studios, and I remember having to beat this deadline to get the album mastered in order to make the release date on time. I stayed up editing the final mixes for 18 straight hours! That was before digital editing so I did it the old fashioned way, WITH A RAZOR BLADE! Tape was every where on the cutting room floor when I finished. I was exhausted but I met the deadline. A lot of people wondered why the album was not promoted more but that wasn't the way it was done back then.

The Profile Records and Next Plateau's of the industry still considered rap somewhat of a fad, and they weren't going to spend much money past the original recording budget. The premise was, "let's throw it against the wall and see if it sticks". Only a few groups were going to get pushed (Run-DMC), and even that would be only after x amount of records were sold, whereby the money being used to promote the group is the groups money, not out of the record company's pocket.

A lot of people slept on that album, but understandably so, with no video or promotion behind it. The Pro 5 songs on that album are still two of the best songs I've been associated with. It was their production and my mix. "Rock Meets Rap" was groundbreaking, the bassline on the song "NY Boogie" is one of the most infectious ever. You could play that right now and get the club bouncing."

Raw Dope Posse - Listen To My Turbo Jan 12, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
At the date of release (1988), this tune sounded quite dated, so never got the respect it deserved. Excellent hard hitting beats similar to the Mantronix/T La Rock collaborations of the mid-eighties.
