Been collecting records since the early 80s when I got on a mission to collect all the records by UK Ska artists Madness (and some other related 2Tone stuff).
Discovered Hip-Hop around '85 (Electro 4), have been collecting Hip-Hop and the breaks behind it ever since.
Through the Mike Allen Hip-Hop show in London in the mid 80s heard very early Chicago House music played with the Electro and got into that big time (one of the first things I had was The House Sound Of Chicago).
Got into reggae and soul through listening to Hip-Hop on the London pirates (JFM, Solar, LWR, Kiss from well before they got their license and the £££s destroyed what was once great...)
Got into the very eclectic and varied Rare Groove & Acid Jazz through friends and going up to London clubs in the late 80s & early 90s.
Love the Mo-Wax/ Ninja Tune/ instrumental Hip-hop journey.
Got into Drum & Bass while living in Texas...
Now I listen to pretty much anything. Collecting Hip-Hop breaks and samples educates you on all kinds of music that you'd probably miss otherwise.
The more I like music, the more music I like.

Izit - Make Way For The Originals / Make Way For The Solos - 31-Jul-06 09:24 AM
It was late at night, sometime in the early 90s. I was in my room smoking with some friends & playing records. I noticed the phone number on the runout and we thought it would be a laugh to call it. Some guy answered the phone who sounded half asleep, he was kinda taken aback when I told him where I got the number from. Said I was the only person whod called and it was a couple of years after the release, think hed forgotten all about it. Pretty sure he said he worked for the mastering company.
Fine Young Cannibals - I'm Not Satisfied - 25-Jul-06 11:38 PM
The Nicci version was a pretty big track in underground clubs during the summer of 89 in London. I was told at the time that it was originally released on a whitelabel which just had the word "Motherfucker" printed on it (she uses the expression a few times throughout the chorus). It was some time later that the official 12" was released and everyone found out who was behind the record.
Mr. Fingers - Washing Machine - 31-Dec-04 04:42 AM
Can You Feel It is a seminal house tune, and one that got played at most of the early acid house parties in and around London that I frequented. The thing to do back then in 88 was to drop Martin Luther Kings "I Have a Dream" speech over the top, this is where the idea for "My House" came from. The Martin Luther King speech was normally dropped off the B Side of a UK 12" that was out at the time by The MLK Project. Can you feel it?
