Vandall
Aug 04, 2009
Where do you start with this dude? I've been following this kid since the first Trancewarez releases. I dont even know where the heck he came from, just BOOM, has his own label, and just starts releasing smash after smash. Within 2 or 3 releases, he had his own signature sound, along with amazing breakdowns, basslines, riffs, synths, everything, not to mention an incredible catalog to attach to his name just 4 vinyls in. Within 3 years of his first official releases, he has put forth many vinyl releases, whether that be produced himself originals, or remixing duties, he just doesnt disappoint. Swithing over to mp3 and wav format, he is able to put out releases at an amazing pace. Just taking hard trance, tech trance, electro trance, or whatever the hell you want to dub it, in my eyes revolutionizing the genre completely. I know this is crazy, and most people reading this will probably strongly disagree, but, I think this kid is the mid two thousands answer to Scot Project. Just thinking about how many anthems Scot Project put out in such a short time, when wav and mp3 wasnt even out really, and vinyl releases were 1 every 3 to 6 months if we were lucky, I feel Vandall is off his rocker, and nothing but good things are going to come out of his head for a very long time. Dont lose sight of his amazing accomplishments already in such a short period. Truly a staple in the electronic music scene as it pushes forward from here on out. I'm just very impressed. Period.

Whatever name you have this guy under, or know him as, he has definitely left his mark on the hard trance genre forever. This guy has stamped his own sound all over the place the past 8-9 years. People may compare him to the likes of the godfather of hard trance, Scot Project, but, I see it differently. This guy has put forth some insane originals, and some even crazier remixes. Due to my own self ignorance, I just discovered these gems within the past 2-3 years, but, timeless classics for sure. If you like hard trance, you need to listen to this guy's releases. Hair raising, chills down your neck, and smiles for miles. Epic breakdowns, buildups, bass lines, and an unforgetable impression left on you by this genius. If you're lucky, you might be able to still find some of his releases for sale on vinyl. A+
Mnemic - Mechanical Spin Phenomena
May 16, 2008
Unbelievable debut cd. Ya, there are only 10 tracks on it, and one is a remix of a track already on this cd, and another is just noise or an instrumental, but, you get 8 quality tracks here, which most are longer than 5 minutes. Mnemic comes out with the cd in 2003, and at that time I had never heard anything like this, still havent really. Heavy heavy heavy, great use of electronics, synthesizers, and they are not afraid to switch the whole direction of a song 5 times over. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next in the track, bam, they turn it around into a whole new track almost. Very metal, hardcore, industrial sounding stuff. I believe they are German, which would explain the greatness that is this cd. Every track has like 15 things going on all at once, you have to listen to the cd about 10 times to finally hear all the background stuff going on. This CD IS their BEST so far out of the 3 they have released to date. Own it!
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
May 07, 2008
I mean, what can you say about this album, other than how influential and ahead of its time it was / is. Think about it. This is 1995 folks, who was out there pushing the industrial / heavy metal scene quite like this? You get everything a metal fan could ask for on this album. Starts with their now patented industrial sound, Herraras hammering double bass, and piercing snare. Burton's harmonic, melodic, and then bloody screams. This is one of the best heavy metal bands of the 90's, and also one of the most underrated, in my opinion. If you dont have this album, you probably should get it. Its already a classic.
Bullet For My Valentine - Scream Aim Fire
Apr 29, 2008
A super hyped up album that just didnt do anything for me. Unsure if I should buy The Poison or not, I was actually quite impressed with it as a debut cd. But like most Nu Metal / Emo bands, the sophomore release is usually the downfall of their careers. Scream Aim Fire is one big let down. After hearing the first track, and thinking, "Wow, this could be pretty sick" I was just let down from track 2 to 11. To the point where I actually skipped over a few tracks and didnt even listen to the whole song. Not sure what BFMV was trying to accomplish here, but they stunk it up. Just some whiney ass repetitive vocals fueled by some mediocre strings and percussion. I guess if you wear eye makeup and tights on your arms you might like this, or maybe if your daddy beat your ass growing up, this is for you! If not, go get yourself your Slayer cds and crank it!
I was pretty excited to get a listen to this mix, as I know what Elite Force can put out for mixes, alongside General Midi, and Meat Katie, and this mix is very disappointing. The track selection is just alright, but, the mixing quality is bullocks. Sounds like he just turned one channel down and the other one up. Track 1 into track 2!! What is that? Yuck! And it doesnt get much better going forward! Not too much "mixing" going on here. Just a let down from an other wise talented artist. In my opinion. Lot49 could have done better here, just check out the General Midi cd release YK4 on Lot49 records. That is mixed the way it should be.
Adam Freeland - On Tour
Mar 10, 2008
Now I know this cd is 7 years young, but I had to comment on it. I just happened to find this at a college radio station, and I have heard of Freelend before so I gave it a shot. This cd IS definitely up there for MY top breaks mixes. Its live, or sounds it anyways, and is flawless. Perfect mixing, flows all the way thru all together. Track 3 is so nasty. Voices...Voices...Voices. That is sick. Even sounds like he brings in the same samples here and there throughout the whole mix. Definitely suggest this cd to anyone who likes breaks or electro breaks. However you catagorize this, its a great mix.
Talk about a slamming track X 2. Well, we have first the Vandall release of Out of my life. this is so friggin good, you have to turn it up at the breakdown and then its released into the thundering follow up and it raises the hairs on your arms. its a very powerful and energetic track for sure, as all of vandalls stuff is. the bass line is bangin tough too. Dont You Want It (My Lovin) is just as nuts! super NRG/hard trance/tech trance whatever you want to call it, make sure you include the words "holy Fu(lshi+" this dude is on point right now with all his productions. His collaborations with Sully and Invader put forth some of the best stuff around right now. Dont get caught sleeping on these releases as they are going fast!
Electronica - Burn Up
Dec 28, 2007
Definitely loving this track right here. I am not so much into the lighter sounds of electronic music as I am the hard stuff, but, this release is so relaxing. I originally heard this track on Seb Fontaine's Horizons cd, and I had to check it out on Discogs. The continuous little organ stabs through the track and the little soft vocal mixed in here and there is very soothing. This is definitely worth getting if you are a prog house/prog trance dj. Its a little old now, but, still fantastic.
Dr Willis & Scott Alert - Go Away
Dec 18, 2007
Not sure if I just got a whack copy or what, but, my original side starts out on lets say, 140 bpm, and then after the first break, it goes to 142!! I could never figure out why my mixes were always off, then I checked out the speed on it, and sure enough. Not only this record, but also the Cheers release from ASYS. Same problem. Obviously, both records are very very good. Dr Willis is coming on strong, (to quote the crow) and Kamui is setting the tone for the new sound of hard trance. | ||||
