Jaquarius - Love Is Happiness
Nov 17, 2009
Don't believe the hype on this. I bought a copy of this for a pound years ago. I sold it later for a profit and was astonished to see the hype surrounding this record. A better purchase would be any Acid House compilation from 1988.
Elements Of Life* feat. Lisa Fischer & Cindy Mizelle - Into My Life (You Brought The Sunshine)
Oct 09, 2009
Absolutely superb vocal House track. I would go as far as saying the best American vocal House track I heard in 2008. With superb soaring black vocals, a really funky bassline and sweet smooth drum programming. It's a rarity these days to find vocal House as good as this. Everything is right about it, the bassline, vocals, organ, mixing, mastering. I think it may appear on vinyl soon. Well worth checking out.
Pete Waterman

Obviously well known for his Stock Aitken Waterman productions. I shall add here that he was arguably a pivotal figure in the promotion of House Music in the UK. This promotion was done through his "Hitman and Her" show that was broadcast on ITV in the late 1980's and early 1990's. It was a show that gave people access to dance music on TV, which was a rare thing at the time. One show even helped propel the likes of A Guy Called Gerald's "Voodoo Ray" into the mainstream, when Gerald did a live PA of "Voodoo Ray" in the Hacienda, with the "Hitman and Her" being broadcast from the Hacienda that week. That Hacienda show helped numerous tracks crossover, along with a massive amount of other House tracks, that were broadcast on his TV show every week.
Clivillés & Cole

Clivilles and Cole were one of the finest dance music production teams ever, period. If you are at all interested in, or involved in dance music production from a House or Hip-Hop perspective, track down their releases and listen. The classic well known C & C Music Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat" is a master class in how to produce a track. It is a really well mixed and arranged record, and full of energy and hooky to boot. A shining example of how to make a record really well.
Art Of Mix - Master Brass

Tremendous Italian House production packed full of samples or replayed horn parts from the likes of Average White Band, James Brown, The Jackson Sisters etc. The varied use of samples and hooks, which constantly change as the record goes makes for an energy packed and exciting record. A master class of how to use multiple samples effectively. Well worth tracking down a copy if you haven't heard it. Brilliant Italian House.
Gil Scott-Heron - Space Shuttle
Mar 30, 2009
The B side "Deep Club Dub" mix of "Space Shuttle" samples Mr Fingers "Can You Feel It" and is a gem of a track. A political song from Gil and still totally apt regarding global warming. Gil was going on about this years ago and those of use tuned in were well aware of it before the recent media hype. This record is totally undervalued at current market prices and is a gem any House or Funk fan should get a hold of.
Frankie Knuckles

Much is written about House Music and the likes of the legendary Paradise Garage and the wonderful Larry Levan. Frankie and Larry DJ'd together in New York before Frankie went to Chicago and kept Disco Music alive, after it had went mainstream globally and then became unfashionable in the early 1980's. He kept Disco alive by getting away from the fashion victims and industry in New York. Disco kept going in the Chicago clubs and then gave birth to House Music. We have much to thank Frankie Knuckles for, he is a living legend as far as I am concerned. Go out and listen to him play if you get a chance.
KC Flightt - Planet E
Mar 20, 2009
The Acid Drop Mix on this is one of the finest examples of Acid House ever made, with a bassline as black and funky as possible that just builds, with the Roland TB303 filter opening right up as the track goes. With Talking Heads samples and a great philosophical political rap, "Planet E" is a timeless classic. This is as good as anything that ever came out of Chicago or Detroit. When I play the vinyl people still come and ask what it is to this day. | ||||
