Bernie Krause - 07-Mar-06 05:35 AM
Absolutely fascinating artist, Krause began his music career in various folk groups. reaching a certain level of fame before he decided upon a different avenue.

Krause was one of the first musicians to use a moog synthesizer, and later became a salesman / product demonstrator for the company. Apparently one one of his visits to George Harrison (the Beatles) he handed over a tape which became Harrisons (Electronic Sound). On the original release Krause is not credited.

Krause later became a freelancer for the police force where his role was to clean up recordings made of suspects and ensure that recordings were original.

It is Kraus' current role that has lauded him with the most acclaim, his field recordings are painstakingly recorded in (usually dissappearing) natural habitats, he has said that he spends over 1000 hours to get just one hour of suitable material.

Krause has perfected the art of field recording over the course of the last 20+ years and has, in addition to setting up his own label dedicated to field recordings, has written 2 books :Wild Soundscapes: Discovering the Voice of the Natural World (a how to guide for field recordists), INTO A WILD SANCTUARY: A life in music and natural sound by Bernie Krause (autobiography) and contributed on The Nonesuch Guide to Electronic Music.

Voyager (3) - Hypersleep - 26-Jan-06 08:21 AM
This release extensively samples dialogue between "Ripley" and "Carter Burke" from one of the opening scenes of the film Aliens.

The track its-self is a dreamy Jungle track, lots of drifting pads and lacklustre drum programming, for a mixing record it is superb, but at nearly 10 minutes long it can get a tad boring.

The album from which this is taken "Future Retro" will dissapoint fans of this track, the styles on the album -poppy jungle and mid tempo vocal tracks do bear the producers' hallmarks but pale against this masterpiece.

I have heard at least 5 sets by LTJ Bukem that have featured this track (the original mix), though in general this record seems to be more popular with fans than DeeJays.
