Audela - 39 Mysterions - 16-May-07 08:14 AM
39 Mysterions was sent to plague recordings as part of a massive demo set of which 5 compositions were used to put together the self-titled audela CD (plague 002). Since 39 Mysterions lasts 52 minutes it didn't fit on the debut album so it was released as a full-fledged album short after. The 5 tracks on "Audela" as well as "39 Mysterions" finish a first cycle of music inspired by Jupiter's Great Red Spot, an ongoing storm first glimpsed 400 years ago. The first album evokes turmoil, the second brings back equanimity...
Ruth's Refrigerator - A Lizard Is A Submarine On Grass - 22-Jan-07 06:24 AM
Fantastic multi-sphered release containing rock, psychedelics, downtempo, avant-garde, kraut and many other styles fantastically woven together by a bunch of talented musicians and a high-end female singer. If you ever wondered where Stereolab and Broadcast got their inspiration from, here's the answer. Absolutely recommended!
Tahnja - Untitled - 03-Jan-07 04:06 AM
"Analog 11 Nonsuch" is the stand-out track for me! A short but mean tune with that typical Fred Fresh TB303, somehow exotic & carnavalesk (it swings like hell!). If u listen carefully u will hear an identical TR pattern (drums) as used for one of the tracks appearing on the 'Comatone 95' ep (released on Electric Music Foundation). Besides the in-your-face acid and the skizzo beats there is also (so typical Fred Fresh again!) a disorted spooky synth/sample which results in a complete neurotic doped-out blend! One of my all-time acid favorites: very rudimentary but very deep.
Ceephax Acid Crew - Ceerial Port - 02-Jan-07 01:31 PM
Pretty happy our funny man is back with fat, decent acid and not yet another fart-in-a-bottle such as 'Hardcore Esplanade'. Ceerial Port brings back the real stuff, quality 303 trickery and spastic rhythms. Andy Jenkinson's doing what he's doing best!
Optic Crux, The - The Optic Crux - 01-Jan-07 12:42 PM
The best part of this album is perhaps its end, starting with "The Forgotten". Fantastic minimal ambient in pre-12K style. Fans of Human Mesh Dance's "TheSecretNumberTwelve" will ADORE this 10 minute trip. The next track ("Klystron Waves") is pretty abstract with a slow basskick. Dark & wavy indeed. The last tune (a reprise of track 2, remixed by Sander Friedeman from Random XS) is almost the same as the original but then completely beatless. The choice of Djax-Up to keep these trax as the final 3 was pretty smart. Most 1994 techno heads probably never listened to them after all. A shame there is no vinyl issue available.
