Robert Henke - Layering Buddha - 13-Nov-06 07:41 PM
Holy shit! Robert Henke, uber-geek and musical genius, delivers what is possibly his best work to date, surpassing even his acclaimed Monolake material. Using loops from the Buddha Machine as his foundation, Henke sculpts soundscapes (an overused term, I know, but not for Henke...) which entrall, mesmerize, frighten and hypnotize. The 10 selections on the CD are simply fractions of what are ostensibly infinitely long tracks. Upon hearing Layering Buddha, I wish I could complete the impossible task of listening to these pieces of music in their entirety. Amazing, sublime and deeply moving music which has few modern equals.
Carl Craig - The Album Formerly Known As... - 27-Oct-05 03:17 PM
Ive still got my original on CD, but desperately wanted the LP version, and then I heard about this release. I was initially concerned about the Versions, but my fears were unfounded as the master Carl Craig tweaks, expands and subtley re-shapes the originals whilst all the time keeping the soul of the whole album firmly intact. Highly recommended, both to owners of Landcruising, and to those who have never even heard of it. A worthy classic given a spring clean. Nice one CC.
DJ Shadow - Live! In Tune And On Time - 30-May-05 01:52 AM
Shadow finally gives us a brilliant mix of his talents both as a producer and DJ, and the results are awesome. Ive always firmly believed DJ Shadow to be one of the most forward thinking of modern musicians, and his approach here to live performance has confirmed that in no small way - check out the DVD too in order to see this exceptional artist working his magic.
Plaid - Rest Proof Clockwork - 09-Mar-04 05:55 AM
Plaids most perfect album - beautifully recorded, wonderfully rich melodies and harmonically rich musical structures throughout, inventive and, like all good music, reveals that little bit extra every time you listen to it.
Sabres Of Paradise, The - Haunted Dancehall - 09-Mar-04 05:37 AM
Are Sabres of Paradise one of the most forgotten Warp artists in the age of IDM?? Who knows, but this for me is one the absolute classic Warp releases, up there with the very best from Aphex Twin. Sabres manage to create soundscapes, textures and feelings which are totally unique and totally involving. This is music for the dancefloor and at the same time music for the brain - genius.
