Skrillex Apr 17, 2012 (edited about 1 month ago)
Skrillex is a terrible producer. I don't care what genre of music he's making; it's garbage. Music should have some sort of cohesion. This guy just takes random noises and combines them in a clusterfuck of nonsense. Purely for 13 year old boys who don't know what music is yet. He is to electronic music what first person shooters are to video games; only appeals to teenage boys and gives the entire industry a bad name. Fuck you, Skrillex. Or whatever...
In an age where pop music has evolved into shallow garbage, you can't help but want something that actually has substance. This album has substance. No auto-tuning or repetitive beats. It's full of layered tracks that have deep basslines, smooth vocals and ample keys and instruments in harmony. Sadly, these elements are missing in pop music today. I'm very impressed. Who knew the "one hit wonders" behind 2001's "Days Go By" were capable of making such a solid album. Great work!
Bill Maher - But I'm Not Wrong Jan 20, 2011 (edited about 1 year ago)
What has happened to Bill Maher? He used to make points that were very profound and intelligent. After listening to one of his performances, you would feel smarter for having done so... and also had a good few laughs in the process! This DVD really shows how downhill his act is becoming. Watch "I'm Swiss" And Other Treasonous Statements and then watch this. It's easy to see how he's becoming the leftist liberal equivalent to people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. He was always liberal in his performances, but never THIS extreme. People have to realise that being on the far left just to battle people on the far right is not a good idea. It means that you are an equally douchey douchebag; it doesn't mean that you're better than them. I hope he realises this soon and becomes a bit more moderate. It really sucks being a Bill Maher fan and then watching this bullshit performance.

Oh, I just wanted to add that throughout this performance he laughs more frequently than the audience at himself as if he's enjoying the smell of his own farts. He may as well have got on stage and masturbated for 80 minutes.
Various - Comedy Zen Oct 23, 2010 (edited about 1 year ago)
I managed to find this DVD for $1 and thought it looked mildly entertaining. To be blunt; it is. There is actually a wide variety of comedians on this DVD despite the fact that it looks like it's by asians for asians. Some comedians are average and some are awesome. There are no bad comedians to be found here which is surprising. I would say the worst one is the host of most of the episodes - Joey Guila. He's funny at times but mostly annoying and unnecessary. He repeats a lot of jokes, too. Maybe not word-for-word, but they're the same jokes nevertheless.

Now, it's time to mention the most awful thing about this DVD. In fact, it's the most awful thing I have ever seen or heard on any stand-up comedy thing. They edit in a laugh track throughout each comedian's set. What the fuck? Are you serious? Whoever edited these episodes with this obviously looped laugh track should be fired. It's terrible and ruins plenty of great punchlines, etc. It's so bad that they even put it after some things that the comedians say that aren't even supposed to be funny like setups to the next bit and stuff. The timing is awful as well. A lot of the time the artificial laugh track starts a good second before anyone would ever laugh at the material thus sucking any potential enjoyment out of the bit. The fact that this is so noticeable (because of its timing, looping and echoing) really distracts from the humour to be found in the episodes. The makers of this DVD don't understand one thing; the watcher/listener doesn't care if the audience is laughing or not. That's what makes comedy special; it's dependant on the individual. I've seen comedy shows where I'm the only one laughing and that makes it more special. What a terrible decision that is terribly implemented.

Anyway, that being said, the 90 minute bonus footage is awesome. There is no added laugh track and a lot of the material featured as bonus footage is better than the material found in the episodes. To me, this makes it worth the $1 I spent on this (it's maybe even worth $10) and is the only redeeming part of this package.

So that's what you get; 6 horribly edited episodes with a sub-par host and artificial audience reaction with 90 minutes of awesome bonus material. What else can I say?
Joe Rogan - Talking Monkeys In Space Apr 12, 2010 (edited over 2 years ago)
Joe Rogan is smarter than he thinks he is. He says a lot of shit that you would never think of on your own. This is really shown in "Shiny Happy Jihad". However, in this performance, he plays it safe quite frequently. I mean, it's funny... but, it's not as groundbreaking as his insanely offensive performance as heard on "I'm Gonna Be Dead Someday..." nor as thought provoking and funny as "Shiny Happy Jihad". This is coupled with the fact that this is only about 37 minutes of stand-up with the rest being about 30 minutes of Q&A. The Q&A would be a lot more cool if the audience was asking even semi-intelligent questions or setting up for Joe to do some more material. Instead, we see either dumb rednecks asking about butt sex and UFC or superficial dumbasses who think they're celebrities (to be specific - an annoying woman who asks to go on stage and do 5 minutes of stand up herself and a guy who is a magician/clown who is actually convinced he's in the same line of work as Joe is). A few times he does some older material after someone asks a question, but it's nothing special and you've probably heard it before a few times.

All in all, if you're a fan of Rogan; get this. Just don't expect it to be on par with his previous performances.
This is a great mix, what else can I say? It's filled with positive house tracks (which is a nice change from the electro-house trend as of late) and mixed very well. You can tell it was recorded from Fankie mixing from vinyl. But, who cares? It just proves how awesome a DJ he is. Truly a house pioneer and he continues to impress to this day. This mix belongs in any house fan's collection. Amazing stuff!
Dennis Ferrer Aug 28, 2009 (edited over 2 years ago)
Dennis Ferrer is a top-notch house producer from New York City. His sound is very New York; vocal and live sounding. I would say his productions are so well done that they rival Masters At Work's tunes. Just take a listen to The World As I See It and try to tell me that album is not one of the best musical experiences you've encountered. I hope Dennis continues to write amazing soulful tracks for years to come.
Martin Solveig - In The House May 28, 2009 (edited over 2 years ago)
This In The House is way better than I thought it would be. I enjoy Martin's productions but never heard any of his mixes before. Disc One is a great collection of varied house tracks that are very well mixed. However, I think Disc Two is where it's at; classics from the Jackson Sisters, The Chi-Lites, George Clinton, etc, all seemlessly mixed? Are you shittin me? That's awesome. There are many mixes like this, but I've never heard one so well mixed before. He mixed these classic disco/funk tracks perfectly with no awkward fade ins or fade outs. Very well done. Disc Three is awesome as well. It could be seen as a best of Martin Solveig compilation and the tracks on it are great. It's surprising they put it as a bonus disc. Of course if you don't have Mousse T's classic funky remix of I'm A Good Man; here's a great place to pick it up.
Beechwood Music Oct 28, 2008 (edited over 2 years ago)
I don't get why Beechwood does what it does. They take 10 or less great tracks and then about 40 shitty tracks that some teenage douchebag made in his parent's basement and cram them on to a bunch of CDs. Sure, they charge peanuts for it, but I'm sure most people would rather buy 1 CD with 10 great tracks on it than 6 CDs with 10 great tracks mixed in with a bunch of shit. They would be a lot better record label if they just put the good tracks on 1 CD and charged the same. They would probably make more money that way, too, since it costs a lot more to make 6 shitty CDs.

Another idea is that they can take a cardboard box with "This Is... The Best Of Music Ever" written on it and fill it with human fecal matter. That way people won't waste time listening to it, they could just throw it in the trash asap.
This is my personal favourite Sasha And John Digweed mix set. I can easily say that this CD can appeal to anybody with an appreciation for fine music. At it's core, it's really genreless. It's not quite trance, not quite house, it's just amazing music mixed perfectly.

Basically, any mix CD that has Gus Gus's strange catchy vibe, Charles Webster's smooth melodies, Mantronik's beats, Fluke's progressive sound and Hybrid's symphonic breaks must be a masterpiece. Just the thought of this mix makes me miss the underground progressive sound of the 90s.
