Soccer Committee & Machinefabriek - Clay - 02-Dec-08 07:15 AM
What an insane ride! This right on 20.00 min piece from ambient noise genius Machinefabriek, alongside regular collaborator Soccer Committee... From a single holding string - but instantly not singular in density - slowing creeping up with slow wobbling momentum - winding | drifting | sailing – ahhh I could keep going on and on but this is just the first 3 minutes of the track! Beautifully construed and exquisitely restrained, increasing in intensity, in pitch, in twine... until someone turns the industrial machine on - a typical Machinefabriek type industrial machine - just slowly gaining fuel from the right speaker, blissful distortion quickly turns into a menacing hum circa the 9 minute mark, just rotating around in your head like as if uv been hit by 20 steamrollers in slow motion, spooky chords lurking, but all gaining intensity - boy this is insane... Then after a period of aural punishment the intensity creeps away, but still meanders... over a period of time... Down tuned chords grumble along... And along... along with soft spooky strings, just like the start of this amazing journey, until they flutter to the background around the 5 min mark, but once again lurk, and lurk, and lurk in such a way that would turn a man who thought they didn’t agree with the concept discreetness and turns it on it’s head, hoping that what feels like an eternity, actually becomes an eternity and never ends... leaving u to ponder all that has past, until the “real end of the track – WOW!!!

Daze Maxim - Pull Absurde - 10-Jul-07 12:55 AM
One of the finest producers of the moment alongside the likes of Bruno Pronsato, this wonky minimal funk master drops another double A-side, with so much juicy groove and delicate programming that it's hard to compare his premium aesthetics to anyone else. "Pull Absurde" is by far the stand out track on the A-side... warped vocal, loose programming and jackin beats ensure this should infect anyone who gives it more than 3 seconds. On the flip, "Take Me Home" is fairly similar to the A-side, ample squelchy funk, vocals more in the background, with twisted synth lines and bass, all encased in the genius infectious rhythms that is Daze Maxim. Resistance is pointless... plug in, loosen up and bug out!

dead prez - Hip Hop / It's Bigger Than Hip-Hop - 15-Mar-07 05:41 AM
What a tune! After trying to chase down this tune for some time, the theme music for Dave Chapelle's show as he walks in, a friend chucked in on one day and knocked my socks off. The infectious bassline and vocals work a treat, this is a hip hop classic from 1999 and it's obvious why, so glad i finally know what it is. This version features all 3 varaitions of "Hip Hop" and "It's Bigger Than Hip Hop" - Real Version, Censored Version, Instrumental + Accapella

International Pony - A New Bassline For Jose - 09-Mar-07 03:43 PM
What a release from International Pony, the original tracks are great, normally not a fan of IP's gear, but this rocks! However go straight to the Jackmate remixes. First up on the A is Jackmate's (real name Michel Baumann / aka Soulphiction & Supatone) remix of "A New Bassline For Jose", he turns the original into and minimal acid bomb, complete with Carl Craig esque funk and chunk, but with Jackmate's irresistible groove. On the flip "Superyou" is a journey into italo deep disco action, with a cheeky little melody floating over the top, old warm pads and stabs. Then Jackmate's remix is once again the winner, upping the energy with a phat acidic b-line groove, drops back into a similar deep groove to the original, then chops things up, and drops some phat as rhythms. All Jackmate and Soulphiction stuff is of such high quality and funk, reminiscent of some Moodyman or Carl Craig gear. 5/5 with a punch!

Pacou - 10 Years On - 23-Feb-07 02:50 AM
Tresor ambassador Pacou drops a bomb EP here, 2 different approaches on each side: A-side was recorded using digital software exclusively, while the flip was created with a variety of old skool synths & drum machines. This was done to "illustrate that only the artist with their creativity has the potential to innovate, independant of which means are used." [except taken from one sheet].

The A-side "All It Takes" is my fave and an outstanding effort, showing his dubby techno / basic channel influences, yet keeping it driving and rolling. Hypnotic and addictive groove. The B-side "It's Time" is also a great effort, more on the Detroit tip, with stabbing synths, shuffling percussion that constantly evolves to maintain quality dance floor asthetics. Great effort Pacou, keep this shizzle rollin... u guy! :) 5/5
