1991-1993 HARDCORE/RAVE/HOUSE MIX 'A Rhubarb & Custard Rush'

1991-1993 PIANO/HARDCORE MIX 'Serenity (1992)'

**************************************************

Hello, and welcome into my slightly warped mindzone. Basics.. I have been into House/Hardcore/Techno since late 1990. After leaving the world of serious philosophical thinking (ie. education), I discovered a life where thought and organisation became so simple.. Where are we going this weekend? & How much cash do i need?? It came in the beautiful form of Raving!! A mystical time, where how you were gonna get back home, from wherever you had ended up that night just wasnt essential or the slightest bit important. Then the realisation 'Shit' a 10 mile walk home in -5 degrees. No coat, just a top, pair of white raver gloves with glo-sticks for torches, and more chewing gum than your jaw could ever manage without locking on every 3rd chew, as numerous police cars drove past laughing at ya freezing your nads off (f**kers.. even they drew the line at getting out of their cosy seat in that weather to even enquire as to where we were going or even if we still had circulation in our hands). Then one day I found what I can only describe as my all time favourite job, working in the club (Luv Shak,Blackpool) that I virtually lived in. This place opened at 5pm on a Saturday, with queues starting as early as 2pm. I had it made.. getting paid to wander around the club removing empty water bottles and lucozade packets from the shelves and what few tables there were. The layout of multi level platforms all looking to the DJ box in a semi-circle type arrangment was genius for a rave club. Whilst to the back of the club a huge chill out area. Perfect yet So Simple!!. And the icing on the cake was Kora, a 50 something Irish cloakroom attendant who loved the ravers and was truly converted into one. And at the same time, she was selling mix tapes in the cloakroom for me. I was mixing up the latest tunez around for a fiver a tape. If only I could find another job like that. Free night out, and comin out with £300+ a weekend. Then off to buy £100 or so of new tunes on Sunday, go home with the rest of the week to recover and do the next weeks mix tape. I was working @ The Luv Shak '92-'93 (best club nights ever!!) with DJ Sass (aka. Spaceface) & Jagga (big up!!). And have DJ'd at a few small events, but mostly for my own enjoyment. I am now slowly building up my collection again after i had quite a few classic tunez taxed from my collection (w**ker!!), though I now have regained some 99% of the rarest ones ... But if you have ever come across a 12" vinyl with the letters F.U.R.Y. written in black on the vinyl label or especially around the centre hole clockwise, you can be sure it was mine at some point ;-) ..as most of my earlier collection contains that ID mark. However, if you have a tune with the above ID on it that is one of those 'rare sort' and are selling it, feel free to contact me and at least give me first refusal . Im only interested if its in good condition of course. ;-)

Most sought after vinyl :-
** DJ JINX - Devotion/Paradise Project (Test Press) **

Most treasured vinyl:-
Too many to mention but especially:- N-Trance 'Set You Free' (1992 PWL White Label) Economix 'Economix EP' (1992 press), Dreamscape 'I Am The Creator', Release 'Spirit Of Space EP' & Sunset Regime 'I've Got The Real Feel (rhythm & love recordings)'

Most hated vinyl:-
All Commercial Cheesy(easy listening), ear cringing (your grandma loves it and thinks she's cool cos its 'NEW'), Macarena 'lets do the moves...' DJ Karaoke trying to mix it bollocks.

I think that just about covers every fun pub and 'play it safe, not hard' night clubs in the UK.

Best nights out:-
Fantazia 'Big Bang' 1993 (my 1st big rave north of the border), Rezerection (especially Event 5 & N.Y.E '95 & '96, and last one May '97),In fact anything in Scotland. Luv Shak 'Orgasm'(blackpool '92), Angels Retro '93-'94 (burnley), Zone '91 (thursday hardcore night), Vortex '98 (blackpool) ,finally Dreamscape vs. Rezerection April '97.

Most memorable moment:-
Walking round the corner to queue up for Angels on the Saturday night of my birthday, and everyone (i didnt know most), shaking my hand & wishing me a great birthday night!! (I must have been smashed the week before, as i didnt remember telling the whole club to be there next week..) . I didnt spend a penny all night, with enough birthday kisses off the ladies to have me thinking it was christmas. You just cant plan a night like that..

Worst night out:-
Walkabout in Blackpool last year ('05). The DJ finishing the night with 'Nelly The Elephant!!!!'.. see what I mean 4 f**ks sake about unnecessary crap. You might wonder whether the DJ was so smashed he forgot it wasnt a kids party? Nope, cos the muppet played it again the following week, followed by Thomas the Tank Engine..WHY??.(and he's getting f**king paid for it..).Its OK to have favourite tunes but playin the old 7" with no middle of a train with a face. Whats next?? A Breakbeat or D&B mash-up of Fraggle Rock?? He must have been hypnotised for a joke to play it, or maybe he calls himself DJ 'The Fat Controller' and so it becomes a start of set intro tune..(100% trainspotter). 1 year on and it still grates me like nails down a blackboard.

Finally ** MY VINYL IS NOT FOR SALE **

Peace to everyone from the UK scene, including Ryvita 'Jester' Peter, DJ Sass,MC Terror, Menace, DJ Damage, Charlie, Jagga, Funki B, John J.(Reality), Carl Cox, Paul Taylor (Visionmasters & Angels), Kathy (Rhythm Quest), Rick Lloyd (New Atlantic), Dave (Helter Skelter), Warlock, MC Lenni, Clarkee, MC Wild, Scott Brown, the one & only Lenny 'Industrial Strength' Dee,MC Roderry, Dexter T & Jam (Splash FM),Dodgy Scouse Alby (Shak owner),Phil, Debbie & Kelly (Melody House), and Mark R.(DJ Braindead)..Also Dave Atkinson, Sarah & Michelle in Burnley + everyone else at Angels that i had the pleasure to meet in '93-'94 ,Mad Marie & Claire (Manchester Posse). And anyone else I have met through the scene. Plus everyone who ever went to the Luv Shak (blackpool)..Drop me an email through the contact option on Discogs. Would be great to hear from anyone who was there...even if i cant remember ya;-) . (-8 H.W.N.D. 8-)

..Hello again, can I first say to anyone who downloaded my last mix.. THANKYOU!!
I have been busy recently and have just come back from the Philippines so this has been the first opportunity I have had to add a new mix since Christmas. I hope to add 2 more mixes before I return to the Philippines in July for 2months.. With a '92-'93 Breakbeat/Hardcore mix & also an Old Skool Jungle '92-'93 mix.
As for this mix.. Well its another style Old Skool mix. More along the earlier lines of Rave/Hardcore from 1991/92.When Hardcore & House tunez were mixed in unity by DJ's in clubs with only one arena/room. Before everything new ended up being produced towards one distinctive style or another with no middle of the road 'Rave' anymore.. (Breakbeat, Happy Hardcore, Progressive, Jungle for example). And from there on, never would we hear 2 styles played in one set, or more to the point rarely 2 styles in the same arena. This was the end of raver integration based around the idea of gathering together in one place for the same purpose..to dance first, then chill later. The biggest crime became the new House style clubs who now had a dress code?? Ravers, shirt, pants & shoes don't mix. But somehow it deceived the Police that a club with dress code had a'NO CHEMICALS FOR YOUR DELIGHT HERE!!' type image.Yet inside, the air was like a Bisto ad..there were probably more spliff blowbacks bein given around the club in one night than there were blowjobs bein handed out in Manila for $1 at the same time.

So if you have got the picture.. this set is called 'A Rhubarb & Custard Rush'.Only those who were there will understand!! A unified mix of earlier hardcore/house tunez combined into one mash-up. At just short of 2hrs I hope, whoever you are (old skool or new) this mix will give you an effective flashback sensation from the Underground Party Era.If it does..spread the word & share it with others.. Finally, the set list is below for any one who is interested.. Feedback is also welcomed..constructive opinions and ideas are the key to improvement but sharing them brings success..
I will add links to new mixes (Old Skool Hardcore/Jungle/Techno & more Old Skool House/Piano House)as I mix them.. NJOI:-)

DJPC - Inssomniak - 21-Nov-06 01:47 AM
What can I say about this *Classic* . Well its still as good today as it was in 1991 and unforgettable as a tune. Also wherever on the vinyl the sample Insomniak is heard, it is possible to wind back over the sample which produces another sample I cant sleep as the vinyl goes in reverse.. Genius!!

Economix - Economix EP - 05-Nov-06 09:21 AM
Im surprised this vinyl had not been commented on, so I thought I would.

This super rare EP in my opinion, is probably on a par with 2-X-Tremes X-tremity EP. When it comes to deciding as to which is probably the best 4 Track EP to be produced from 1992, I would have to choose the Economix EP. Many will disagree, but the 2 tracks Loop (aka The Finest) & Panic just edge it in front for me.

With all 4 tracks being outstanding, starting with - 5AD an uplifting, piano house number from start to finish. The quality of the next track, Loop being another classic piano house tune, it samples a song from the 80s (which I just cant remeber the name of at the moment), and blends it in with the accompanying piano backing and energetic rhythm brilliantly.

On the other side is Panic which has more of a breakbeat rhythm with the scratched in samples Feel The Panic, Got To Have It, building the tune up until finally exploding into another uplifting piano riff, before blending everything in together with the vocal samples, deep bass line and nice breakbeat (played everywhere at the time). Finally, last but not least, Equake, this tune has a harder edge to it, with breakbeat again being the substance of the main rhythm, but still mixing it up with piano lines throughout.

Overall, each tune stands up in its own right, and being as rare as the Dodo, its not surprising that this vinyl routinely sells for £150+.

And at last, for anyone desperate for this tune but restricted by cost, it has been repressed on the original metalwork whilst also including a copy of the original artwork that accompanied the original release.

An essential piece of vinyl for any Old Skool Piano House collector or DJ.

Hixxy - Spaceman / Saturday Night - 16-Oct-06 01:11 PM
If there was ever a going to be a 12" vinyl that i love & hate at the same time, it has to be this. As Spaceman goes a a tune it is A+. An excellent rendition of Babylon Zoos release with a nice energy busting hard rhythm backing it. Shame the same can not be said for the second side Saturady Night by Wigfield. Hixxy has produced some good work in the past but some (including this track), has fallen well short of decent, with this one being more Cheesy than previous. So much so, I actually tried to demolish the B-Side by scratching it enough to stop my mates playing it constantly on the decks at the time. Something that is totallly out of character for a vinyl collector !!. Amazingly the B-Side, with several deep scratches, survives and plays with no audible noise.
And so for its resiliance I have given it another chance.
;-)

Various - The Core Foundation EP - 16-Oct-06 01:11 PM
I aquired this excellent LP from DJ Sass when he stopped off to meet us on his way to Rezerection in April 97 , around about midnight just to let me have a copy of this album (peace m8). This has got to be the best compilation ever released. Maybe because at the time all the tracks were un-released and as such it was not a best of LP. From Happy Hardcore through to some harder Bouncy Techno this has something for everyone. Probabaly my favourite 3 tracks are Ready To Fly , You Got It, & This Beat Kicks. Though I am not really into Happy Hardcore much, these 3 tracks definately had an edge which was not cheesy (as so much of the Happy Hardcore scene had become at the by then), and so fitting in with the more bouncy/hard techno tracks on the rest of the LP which are all generally top notch additions.
