Brennan Green - Potato Emperor EP - 22-Mar-04 12:48 PM
Whatever! I like the attitude in the vox on this one. This is a more laid-back, electro-house-ish kinda record. I put this on most "introduction to house" comps that I make for people. Its more song-based than most house records, which is something I really appreciate after tiring of the predictable "change after 8 bars" thing. Brennan and Daniel Wang are two very respectable dudes.
Wardell Piper - Captain Boogie - 22-Mar-04 12:45 PM
This is a disco/funk track that renews my faith in the dollar bins. It may not be worth dropping $8 on e-bay for, but its still a nice one. Stripped down, funky-attitude disco. It sounds like it was recorded in the middle of a dance party in someones living room. If you like the raw, gritty disco feel, this is a good one to get.
Martin Circus - Disco Circus - 22-Mar-04 12:42 PM
This is where Francois K fans are made. The edit is fantastic. I played it for my girlfriend the other night who doesnt even really like disco, and she loved it. Banger vocals and super dirty keyboards. This is raw disco. Id dance alone in my room to this one.
Kelley Polar Quartet - Recital EP - 22-Mar-04 12:37 PM
Im kinda liking this one a little more with each listen, but it leaves you wanting for more. Morgan Geist produces, and it makes you think he might be having a musical block, maybe? No disrespect, Morgan, the Metro Area LP is still one of my favorite "late-night-drive-home-from-the-club" albums, but I just feel this production could be pushed further. The B-side is definitely the hit on this one, with kinda creepy, air-head lyrics (then again, whats the last philosophical techno lyric youve heard). It might work for testing the water while the floors still standing around, getting drinks in em, ignoring the dj...
Annie - The Greatest Hit - 22-Mar-04 12:32 PM
Ahhhh... This is THE song that got me into house music. In retrospect, maybe a bad place to start, simply because few have delivered like this song. The bass line is actually sampled from a Madonna song. Whats that Jay-Z line to Nas? "You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song." Thats what producer, Erot did with this one. Its a damn shame that guy is gone. The whole song has such a nice, warm, dark feel to it. Im pretty sure this one would get any room moving hard. Love it!
