Evol Intent - Era Of Diversion - 02-Jul-08 05:55 PM
O-M-F-G !! I have heard this referred to as forgetable. As much as i despise the genre tag IDM, these guys almost manage to produce imo a new sub-genre in DnB - call it IDDNB - Intelligent dark drum n bass. Production quality that almost reaches radiohead levels, with a vibe that will whet the appetite of every darkside loving raver. My only criticism is that South London was missed off of the vinyl and was only on the CD :(
Pendulum (3) - Back 2 You / Still Grey - 02-Jul-08 04:47 PM
Fk still grey lol, back to you is rude rude RUDE!!! a solemn and dark, rhythmic intro slopes down into a beat break of Dark, energetic hoovers that oh so warrant a youtube listen. Slope down again and then DROP!! Beats, bass and hoover in one hit like the first drop. Words dont do any tune justice, especially this one. The no. of owners and rating says it all for something that didnt get as much play as it deserved. Utterly RUDE!
Skanna - The Skanna Collection Volume One - 26-May-08 06:57 PM
Just for info purposes, at the time of writing this, if you try and source mint copies of EPs from the main tunes of this double pack, you wouldnt be getting much change from two hundred quid. All four tracks are pure and utter subliminal GENIUS. There is a reason that John Graham is still big today and that is because the man has a gift. Those of us who have ventured into the dark side of life know what that gift is, and to those who havent and have yet to discover - this is LEGENDARY music ! If you are in any doubt, check the ratings and stats for the original release of each title. I am very surprised this hasnt sold out already and i dont doubt for one minute that the main reason for this is the current economic climate, but when these do sell out, those who have missed this will be sorely kicking themselves.
Krome & Time - This Sound Is For The Underground / Manic Stampede - 10-May-08 08:05 PM
Probably the best tune of 1992. Manic Stampede is an A-side tune too, something magical about the nutty, squirly synths (words often fail me :D), but theres something slightly lacking. It might be the b-line, which seems perhaps too hard and repetetive, i cant quite figure it out. Perhaps its just being dwarfed by the flip. Even so, still a fantastic tune.
But the A-side..Jesus Christ.. its goosepimple time! The continuity of this track is flawless! Utterley rude, right from the very start to the very end and unlike most heavy , full on tunes, theres no headache second time around - you can listen to it over and over again (I remember one party where it got 6 or 7 rewinds, with ppl screaming "AGAIN, AGAIN!" ).
Not one single ounce short of LEGENDARY
