DJ Crystl - The Dark Crystl / Inna Year 3000
Apr 02, 2009
This tune is one of the darkest bangers of 1993. one of those underated tunes that everyone missed. i don't think i ever heard this tune on any mix tape or pirate radio set, which in my opinion is a real shame. Warpdrive was the tune that really put DJ Crystl on the map, but i think this track is as good. My mate bought this when it came out, i couldn't find it for love nor money and he refused to sell it to me. (Years later he sold it for peanuts)
This is one of those records that i will never forget buying, i was lucky enough to be in the record shop (Record Bassment, Reading, UK), when this arrived. i was busy grabbing rave flyers when someone stuck this tune on the turntable. The guys in that shop were never afraid to keep the volume level up, and when this tune kicked in everyones lungs rattled! Me and my mate snapped up a copy immediately, and spent pretty much the whole weekend listening to it on full volume, those were the days! Never understood why i didn't hear this tune on a single mixtape or pirate radio set, for its day it really stood out as a banging track, and even today it's stood the test of time better than most. I still have my copy, its not in the best condition but then it's had a rough life! If you were into your darkness or early drum n bass when this came out, you'd be forgiven for not owning this, but do yourself a favour and buy it now, it's a classic.
Bound For Glory - The Fight Goes On
Mar 01, 2009
This album is probably the best Bound For Glory release, not only for its content but its production in general. Produced by the infamous Resistance Records the face of American white pride music, it is much more professional looking than previous and later efforts. The sleeve was a fold out with full track lyrics and photos, including two of Ian Stuart and original vocalist Erik Banks to whom the album is dedicated. Sound wise the album kicks in with The Iron Eagle Flies Again, an instant ear popper! From there we move straight through another five Bound For Glory classics each one with its own unique aggressiveness. Then we have tracks 7 and 8, that every skinhead should know and love, these two tracks Welcome and Your Worst Nightmare are Bound For Glorys best! Any live set is incomplete without the inclusion of these two tunes that are usually played without a break between them, watch the crowd on any Bound For Glory performance, they go nuts as soon as Big Ed begins playing his guitar like only he can! The final track is a perfect ending to a perfect album, a slow starting ballad that kicks in with true Bound For Glory attitude. Just go and buy this CD, if you can handle it.
Bound For Glory - Warriors Glory
Mar 01, 2009
If you have an ear for right wing rock music then i strongly suggest you find and purchase a copy of this album! This was the first studio album recorded after the murder of original vocalist Erik Banks, with Joel taking over that role. The sound is much more Oi! in style than any other Bound For Glory release, but still has the heavy, hard metal style that they're known for. Standout tracks are title track Warriors Glory, a definate anthem that would fit well amongst most live favourites from the later releases. Personal favourite has got to be Capital Punishment Now! An angry classic with a shoutalong chorus, surprisingly it wasn't a regular in the live sets, probably because it would start a riot! Bound For Glory are by far the best and most professional sounding band to come from the White Pride music scene and i'm sure if their lyrics were left wing they would've been absolutely massive, even though that was never part of the plan! Any of their albums are worth tracking down, this one is probably the most aggressive sounding. These guys didn't just talk the talk, they walked the walk!
Boot Party - Bricks To Concrete
Feb 25, 2009
This has got to be one of the most under rated or undiscovered Oi albums of all time. This is American Oi to die for! 11 tracks that fly by in no time at all, each one with a catchy rhythm and typical rough vocals. Trust me if you're a fan of Youth Defense League i'm sure you'd like this, not as political but still has a dangerous edge to it, perfect for listening to before you go out on the town with your mates! The sound on this album is perfect too, the drums are heavy and the bass is like a boot stomp! track it down and treat yourself.
Youth Defense League - American History
Feb 02, 2009
This is the sort of recording you listen to once and then have to play it again, it's that good. Youth Defense League do an excellent job on both these recordings, aggressive Oi music with a definate sense of real danger! These guys are known for being controversial and by the sounds of this album i guess you either love or hate them. I love them! Skinhead 88 is probably THE skinhead anthem, if you don't have this you need it! In fact just track down anything by this band and get it. Now!
Disaffect - Powerless With A Guitar
Feb 02, 2009
If you've heard Disaffect's studio recordings you'll know what to expect! This is an awesome bit of vinyl, very good quality recording of this noisy but tuneful band. surprisingly, you can actually understand the vocals even with these live recordings! I'm a huge fan of this band so i'm probably biased but if you like hardcore punk with an edge, this is for you! real issues are covered and the vocals are spot on! if you don't already know them play it safe and track down a studio release before jumping headfirst into a live effort, but seriously you can't go wrong here!
Bastard Son Of Fud - Bastard Son Of Fud
Jan 27, 2009
I first heard Bastard Son Of Fud after purchasing this casette. I sat there and listened to the first side in total amazement. I have never heard vocals like it, dual male/female vocals a bit like Disaffect, only better, or worse depending how you look at it. Of all the wretched screams and shouts on all the obscure hardcore tunes ive heard, Bastard Son Of Fud take first prize! The songs are catchy too, simple classics like You Bastards and Zombie Shit Ma Bed get stuck in your head. How i wish i'd seen these guys live! Not only for the experience but also to see the look on peoples faces! If you like raw, throaty, hardcore filth then give these guys a listen! You get 9 tracks in about 12 minutes, then a live set that just sounds like armageddon itself! I love it!
