Kemal + Rob Data - Hostile - 20-Apr-08 02:50 PM
Got this recently for £30 and i have absolutely no regrets at all. Kemal & rob were at their peak when they remixed this tune & it was never released due to label politics.

Many people have hailed this as the best tune that Kemal & rob aka 'Konflict', ever produced and it is hard to disagree with that.

The tune starts with a nice acid type intro and what follows is a immense reece bassline and breaks that would knock the great wall of China down! I recently played it in a set and it sounds so fresh after all these years. I would recommend any hard tech step drum & bass nut to hunt this down as you will not be disappointed.

One of the best drum and bass tune off all in my opinion.

Dylan - Inferno E.P - 20-Apr-08 05:05 AM
No disrespect to the other three tunes but it's all about Kemal & Rob data's take on 'Possession' here, and what a screamer it is too!

It starts with a nice hip hop intro with some freaky vocals and then comes the ultra reece bassline followed by a nice konflict break. This is easily one of the best tunes Kemal & rob did togeher along with their ultra classic'Hostile' & the legendary 'Messiah'.

A buy on sight ep for the kemal & rob data tune and one for all the dark heads and especially if you are into the sound of Teebee, Spor, Hive & Gridlok.

)EI3(* - Inside The Machine / Lost And Found - 25-Feb-08 01:55 PM
When this album was first announced along with a second cd of unreleased tunes, the fanbase when into hyperdrive and this release could not come soon enough!

Bad company are legends within Drum & bass [they split in 2003]and fans have never forgotten their influence which changed the scene for the better with their heavy drums, paranoid soundscapes and basslines that made you feel like you had been punched by a heavyweight. My personal favourite is the epic 'Colonies' which starts with a dreamy mellow vibe before showing it's uglier side halfway through, a slamming tune.

CD 1 is their classic debut album 'Inside the machine' in it's full glory containing the all time classic 'Nitrous' which used to get played about 20 times in a night at any rave back in 2000. This is a fantastic album and it was nice to listen to it again and appreciate the effort that had been put in.

The most important aspect though of this album is cd 2 which is the 'Lost & found' tunes showcase and a nostalgic experience for the early dnb heads. All ten tunes showcase the talents of the boys and just how far ahead they were when they were at their peak. Tunes like 'Ease down', 'Tendon', 'Excession' & Beacon' are just awesome with their hectic drums and dark bass capturing the dark drum and bass sound with the funk factor intact, of those days. You also get the huge 'Sneakers' featuring Trace which was probably the most requested tune on the album.

This is a fantastic 2cd set from 'Bad company' and a little thank you for the fan's who have dreamt of this getting released for a good few years now!
This is a must for any drum & bass fan out there and one of the finest drum & bass albums of all time.

Photek Productions* - Form & Function Vol 2 - 25-Sep-07 01:35 PM

Right! I have spent some time listening to this album & have to say that it is simply stunning! From the lush opening tune 'Love & war' it is clear that Photek is back with something special. 'Deadly technology' is my fav from the album with its razor sharp intro and the most tearing drop in years!!.

The two old tracks, 'One nation' and 'Saturated hip hop' give the album a very special identity and both are excellent tunes to the former's amen workout & the latter's stunning beat programming. 'Man down' featuring Teebee & Tech itch is very late 90's sounding with a pounding reece bassline over some nice breaks. A excellent tune.
Photek also is on the vocals for 'Industry of noise' which is a nice tune with a indie feel to it & great Photek drums.

The remixes are also spot on with the inclusion of in my oppinion the best remix of all time! the legendary 'ni ten ichi ryu' by Teebee. What a stunning job he did. The tech itch & dylan remix of 'Baltimore' is also excellent with the duo's trademark metallic breaks all present.

The only downer i feel is the 'Thunder' remix by die & clipse which just sounds weak compared to the rest of the album. 'Full sprectrum dominance' is a classic homage to Photek with clear references to his best work all included in one huge tune!

To conclude this review i must say i waited a long time for this album and it has not disappointed one bit. The production is stunning with nice vocal tunes followed with some heavy dark drum & bass. If you like Photek then this is a must and if you are serious about your drums then you must check this album. I will also be buying this on vinyl for 'Deadly technology' which is worth getting alone for!

PS - I note that a lot of people have dismissed this album without actually taking time to listen it fully, but this will certainly stand the test of time and no doubt be hailed a classic in years to come

Calyx + Teebee - Anatomy - 23-Sep-07 11:50 AM
When this project was first announced everyone waited in anticipation and now that the wait is over and the dust is settling you realise that this is classic album in the making and a lesson in tearing drum & bass.

Both artists are legends within the scene & as a duo they are simply unstoppable! All the tunes on the album are just plain awesome with not one tune disappointing. There are so many top tunes that it's impossible for me to go through each one!

The opening tune 'The Divide' starts with a dramatic intro followed by a steaming drop which comes accompanied with a nice french horn sample. This tune has given me whiplash! 'Warrior' starts with a a nice half-time razor sharp intro which has you thinking of images of two samurai legends head to head with their swords in battle! the drop is just twisted and oozing with funk.
'Make your choice' has got one of the best intro's i have ever heard with it's emotionally charged strings which sets the scene to an onslaught of heavy drum & bass, this track is my personal fav from an excellent album.

'Ultimatum' has another stunning intro full of emotion and the track is dominated by some nice stabbing bass and excellent breaks. 'Telepathy' is simply a nice techy roller which has recieved plays by all top dj's for well over a year. 'Enygma' again showcases the duo's use of stunning sounds for an impressive intro followed by a twisted razor sharp break drop which just sounds stunning.

Overall this is one amazing and extremely impressive album which will have you firmly hooked from the very first listen and it is already firmly in my all time top 10 which is quite rare these days bearing in mind that the other albums in my list are well over 5-10 years old!

This album is a must for anyone into well produced, quality drum & bass that stands the test of time.
