Problem Kids Presents Buddy Booth - What Problems? E.P - 22-Jul-09 01:59 PM
Problem Kids = Rocky (Rocky and Diesel / X Press 2 / Ballistic Brothers) and Mark Wilkinson who has releases on Jus Trax and Paper Recordings amongst his back catalogue.

This record is pretty straightforward dancefloor material. "And Jack" is a driving relentless groove with a looped bassline lifted from Crown Heights Affair - You Gave Me Love.

"Do or Dance" is more of the same formula. I hope that doesnt sound negative though, as its a formula that works very, very well in a dark and sweaty club about 1am. Quality release on seminal house music label.

Currently listed on Discogs for the ridiculously low price of £1. Go buy.

Dominik Eulberg - Der Buchdrucker - 26-Jun-09 02:55 AM
Dark haunting deep house music from Germany. Up to the usual high standard of release from Traum - Der Buchdrucker is the track for me here - one of those special records that, from a DJing point of view - could pretty much be played on any dancefloor at any time and be sure to move the crowd. You may know this track from the Hot Chip mix released via the DJ Kicks series.

Emotional Intelligent house music.

Judie Tzuke - Welcome To The Cruise - 26-Jun-09 02:38 AM
Really interesting album from Ms Tzuke that manages to cross a number of genres from soul to rock to disco withough sounding over elaborate or cluttered. She really has a fantastic voice and it always surprises me that her career didnt go further given her obvious talent.

The stand out track for me is "Stay With Me Till Dawn" which has a wonderful synth / keyboard break in the middle which was pretty much lifted in its entirety when sampled by Mylo on "In My Arms".

John Daly - Solitaire / Back It Up - 25-Jun-09 08:12 AM
Haunting deep house record by John Daly. Solitaire is a fantastic track for me, initially almost reminiscent of Jean-Michel Jarres floating ambient style until it is taken over by a solid looping bassline and heavy disco percussion. Synths, strings and fantastic drum programming combine here to produce something that will get a great reaction from most discerning dancefloors. The end result is thing of beauty - a deep groove that can be played at any time of night if the dj works it properly.

One of those rare versatile records that will stay in your box long after you buy it.

7-Eleven - Dance The Slurp - 25-Jun-09 07:30 AM
Originally issued by the 7-Eleven chain of American convenience stores in the late 60’s to advertise their Slurpee drinks, this track went on to become famous around 1999 when DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist built their legendary Brainfreeze mix around it, resulting the ultimate mix tribute to the funk 7-inch. They used some of the original artwork for the design of the vinyl / cd releases.

The original Brainfreeze mix debuted live at a February 1999 Future Primitive show in Los Angeles where Cut Chemist and Shadow actually brought in Slurpees to distribute to the crowd. Nice touch.
