Aslyn - Lemon Love - 21-Nov-09 11:37 AM
Oh My God, what an awesome singer/songwriter Aslyn is! She was such a breath of fresh air for me, never do we get such good pop artists like her over here in the United Kingdom, let alone get into our charts. Shes got such a powerful voice, with some really beautiful lyrics and her piano playing skills are just as beautiful. After finding her song Be The Girl, on the Derailed OST - i fell in love with her voice, and so did anyone else who heard her - so i thought id give her album a listen and by god, its good. A must for anyone who wants something different.
Antlers, The - Hospice - 15-Nov-09 09:50 AM
This album is, for those who dont know - about a girl who has cancer, and the songs are written from her fathers point of view - as far as i know. This music is some of the most sad, depressing stuff ive ever heard. Their lyrics are genius. They remind me of the sort of songs they play on british dramas when someones being rushed into hospital, and they are showing a montage of whats happening then and whats happening to everyone else. I will give this hint, its best to listen to this music using headphones or loudly...as their vocalist is quiet - to help the feeling. A recommend if you like artists like Bon Iver.
Venetian Snares - 09-Nov-09 10:49 AM
Well my life and perspective on Electronic music definitely changed when i listened to Mr. Aaron Funk. I first came across his music, after hearing his track "Felbomlasztott Mentökocsi" (which is my favourite representation of disturbed minds of someone who is mentally troubled.) on the British TV programme Top Gear. I loved this song, but to me with just hearing this song i thought he was more of a classical musician. I then decided to download his album "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született", which i promptly put on my ipod and walked to my local town centre too...my god i was shocked in two ways. Shocked that this was classed as music, and shocked that it wasnt classical music at all - it was techno? (Im not a major fan of techno, im more of a Rock sort of guy, although i will listen to anything.)
Its been about 4 months since i first downloaded the album, and listened to it once... i deleted it - i didnt want to listen to that. But i slowly found myself wanting it back, missing those crazy, quick, insane, nightmare like shots VSnares would shoot at your eardrums. So here i am listening to "Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding". And i fucking love it. Of course, its hard to get my metalhead guy mates and my top 40 fan girl mates to listen or even appriciate this type of music. But im telling you know, if you havent listened to this, pull up your spotify and listen to one album...any album...and just close your eyes - turn up your speakers...and let your imagination create images from these sounds. I get images of dreams, to me this is what dreams sound like if they were created in sound form. I also think this is what it sounds like in a city, if our ears could pick up electromagnetic waves produced by the technological world we live in. Trying to explain the sound to people is near impossible, it sounds like every video game pre 1995 mashed up to create some crazy ugly beast of a game. This man is a god at what he does, and yes we all hate to love his music - but if you want to let your mind go for one crazy fucking walk, without drugs...this music is for you.
Various - New Hits 96 - 24-Jul-09 05:27 AM
I picked this up from my local second hand electronics store (Cash Converters) for 50 pence. I am compilation addict, so I wanted to add this to my ever growing collection. The compilation holds many classic favourites from the year, although I only know of some of them as I was only at the age of 2 when this album came out. Even though the album says New Hits 96, some of the hits date back to the 80s, with a selection actually coming from 1996 - but this only seems to apply to Disc 1. I am unsure for their reason in doing so, maybe these older tracks had their come uppance in 96 or maybe they just needed to fill the gaps - so that each cd would have equal amount of tracks. Also I am quite bewildered in why they split the rear cover into Parts (being Parts 1-4) - like if they were on cassette. Maybe that was their reason, who knows - but nothing says Part 2, and they are not continuous tracks. Also as I said in release notes, the rear inlay doesn’t account/mention the track mixes (for example original mix) just the tracks. The rear inlay also is bare of any catalogue numbers, label codes or copyright information - this can be seen by the images.
Anyway enough of the aesthetics of the CD, the track quality on here - nowadays, is not worth that much. There is alot of stuff you skip. Some of the electronic stuff isn’t wowing, with the best being Prodigy’s appearance. This CD was worth the 50 pence at the end of the day, with the gem of the Oasis Cover of Quiet Riots Cum On Feel The Noize. The best tracks on this compilation, in my opinion are: *Return Of The Mack - Mark Morrison *I Will Survive - Chantay Savage *Children - Robert Miles *Firestarter - Prodigy *Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit - Gina G *Search For The Hero - M People *Missing - Everything But The Girl *I Just Wanna Make Love To You - Etta James *Dont Look Back In Anger - Oasis *Ladykillers - Lush *You And Me Song - The Wannadies *The Riverboat Song - Ocean Colour Scene *Cum On Feel The Noize - Oasis *Ready To Go - Republica
Also it can be noted that the compilation seems to follow this pattern: CD1 Parts 1 & 2 = Top hits of the year including all genres CD2 Part 3 = All types of rock, including what is a hint of the now very popular Rap Metal/Rock by Dog Eat Dog CD2 Part 4 = This is all electronic music, with the so-so novelty song being Move Move Move by Manchester United Squad.
My Ratings: Quality of Selection of Music: 5/10 Aesthetical Quality (What information is given etc.): 3/10 Worth How Much I spent on it - 9/10
