Swirl People Nov 18, 2003
For me Swirl People are just a mediocre house outfit. They releases lack both funkiness and depth. Produced mostly of samples without any concept behind.

The A side has got the proper acid drive, would be very good was it not for the silly and annoying vocal. i mean I know what acid vocals are about, but this one sounds very unatuthentic. The B side is a rather standard Colgne stuff. To say it again: A side instrumental would be great!
This is one of the most uninspired records I've heard in a long time. Most tracks are based on a dull two-chord scheme, also the sound is uninteresting. Kalkbrenner tries different rhythm patterns throughout the tracks, but they don't produce interesting effects either, as these are patterns we've all heard million times before used in a much more inventive way. Incredible how I managed to listen to this album all the way through!
Fuchsbau - Null/Eins Nov 06, 2003
Characteristic Cologne bass-heavy shuffle rhythm on this one. Check out Schaffelfieber 2 on Kompakt, for a more homefriendly version of this sound. Fuchsbau and MI5 mixes are more on the darker side, the Wassermann mix is a powerful acid workout. Note that all the mixes come from Wolfgang Voigt.Definitely one for the dancefloor.
For me it's a major milestone for a modern minimal electronic music. Beatifully produced cracks and clikcs with cute unpretentious jazzy snippets Flanger could be jealous of. Funky as hell and it was recorded in 1999 actually. If you like the likes of Flanger, Cabanne or the whole Perlon output, you will just LOVE this. Pity that this record has just gone unnoticed by many listeners.
