Various - IntelliNET: The Story So Far - 19-Aug-07 05:50 AM
I grew up in the 'second wave' of Detroit techno. I have always been disapointed that there has been a some sort of disconnect between the music of Detroit, and what was happening across the river in Ontario/Toronto/London(Canada).

Richie Hawtin is, of course, give Detroit props. But the rest of the Canadian (I would argue 'Ontario' sound) is often disregarded. The fact is, these two party scenes were essentially one, and the sounds of the various +8 affiliates received huge play time at Detroit parties.

In reality, there were periods of months (many months), when because of police action, the entire Detroit scene was in fact hosted in Ontario. Some of the best 'Detroit' partys happened in the warehouses and fields of Ontario Canada.

This CD, in particular the 'For your head' mix would give you an excellent insight into the sounds that were coming from Eastern Canada at the time. Wonderful, warm, analog, thoughful tracks that acted as a more cerebral accent to the funk of Detroit techno.

It is well worth pursuing a copy if you are into 90-94 Detroit techno.

These were the tracks that were being played on the dancefloor of the partys of that period.

Global Deejays - The Sound Of San Francisco - 26-May-05 07:09 AM
The tracks on this EP are pop music, and many will deride it as such. I am an old school techno fan, so this is not exactly my style of music. But the fact is, its great dance music. Is it innovative? No. Is it derivative and been done many time before? Yes. Can you dance you ass off to it in front of the speakers in a hot sweaty club? Yes! The is not art, its craft. But its good craft.

Blake Baxter - EP - 14-Apr-04 05:39 PM
If you are interested in having an extremely complete collection of early Detroit, get this records. But the fact is, the tracks are pretty poor. Certainly not on par with the vision of other Detroit artist of the time. I think you can tell by the title, 'hornie', that Baxter was taking a more ghetto approach. On some of the tracks, Baxter attempts to sing like a robot for effect. It fails.

Adriano Duggento - Electronic Twister - 28-Feb-04 02:29 PM
The a1 track on this EP is just SICK! Nice, hard techno 4/4 stomper. The whole EP is excellent techno. If you like Glen Wilson, Kai Randy Michael, Steve Stoll.....you will probably like this EP.

I would buy it just for the a1 track. SICK!

Akufen - Québec Nightclub - 26-Feb-04 11:08 AM
This is one of the best, if not the best, record I have heard in the last 5 years. The Radio Shuffle track is just genius. Essentially clips of radio sounds and static, cut up into an extremely funky track.
