Cricco Castelli - Life Is Changing - 13-May-09 06:54 PM
Was there any house jock in 97/98 that didn't have this record and play the ba-jesus out of it? The balance of dancefloor killer and lounge classic is blurred with this tune, because the jazzy riff sucks the listener in and we can't help but dance. At the same time, the vocal is infectious and one listen will make it clear why this was a huge house anthem... "Oh no no.. I'm going through change.." If you don't have one of the myriad of pressings this record was on, find one; then whip it out and smash the dancefloor... some songs never age.
Unknown Artist - The Fifth Clones - 07-Feb-08 08:13 PM
Clones is known for their ability to take the best parts of a tune and techno-ize it... but this is one of my favs.
The A side is a remake of 'Acid Trax' and offers a screamin rendition of the classic Phuture 303 line... but the B side is the money shot. They remix 'Al Naafiysh (The Soul)' and utilize that nasty bass synth, while organizing the snippets to flow into the high-synth breakdown. There aren't too many good Al Naafiysh (The Soul) remixes, so if that's something you're looking for, buy this record.
Samuel Onervas - Fugitive E.P. Remixes - 29-Jan-08 09:28 PM
You probably know the Melrob remix the best, but NONE of the mix CDs that used it ever gave credit, so you probably went out and bought the original version and were disappointed. That seething bassline, filtered, 90's style tech-house percussion, just fast enough to be techno... toss in the 'I'm the Man' sample = BLISS.
If you listened to "High Desert Soundsystem" from DJ John Kelley and couldn't get enough of the last track on the CD, that's probably a good indication you need this record.
DJ Sneak & Armand Van Helden - Hardsteppin Disko Selection - 23-Dec-07 04:21 AM
This records was definitely one of my secret weapons for a number of years. I was fortunate enough to have live in Chicago when Carlos and Armand first gave this tune out to some of the 'heads'. All the DJs 'in the know' seemed to have a copy, but no one knew what the damn track was with those hard, stepper-ish beats and nasty disco loops. Upon first listen, you had to wonder if some of the UK guys were trying to make Chicago house... but no, it was Carlos and Armand, taking disco house to the next level.
This release is stuttering, hard and still kills on the dance floor. If you can find a copy of the record with the mushroom on it.. Get It! This tune will be a dance floor staple far after we're all gone.
Josh Wink - Profound Sounds Vol. 1 - 23-Dec-07 03:32 AM
Does anyone even care that this wasn't a mix done on turntables? Well, I hope not. Some of the tracks in this mix are ultra-rare or at very least hard to come by and Josh mixes them as he has done in countless live sets. I think that's why I like this mix so much; I hear in this mix what I heard in various live sets and it's just awesome to know that he has that kind of control over his music.
The track selection flows and is nothing but short of, shall I say... epic? For minimal & techno this is as epic as it comes.
I love Josh Wink and I think this mix personifies his live performance. I'm sure you'll agree.
