Papillon (2) - Different World (Everybody) / The Bully - 20-Nov-07 02:28 PM
IMO it's the 'The Bully' this record is worth buying for. While 'Different World' - being a cheesy "wave your hands in the air like you don't care" anthem - annoyed me after a few spins, 'The Bully' is catching my soul every time I put it on the decks. Oldskool Techno at its best! You just cannot beat that added trance loop and the atmosphere it creates. This goes 5/5 and beyond, a must for every serious collection!
Marmion - Three After Midnight - 18-Dec-06 09:46 AM
The one to go for on this release is "Marmions Island Pt.2 - The Unknown Territory", a very dark and mystic slo-mo techno track with an industrial touch, running around 80 bpm. Whatever your style is, if you open the set with this the audience is yours, no matter how bad your mixing skills are. This track will always put a big grin on my face.
Station Rose - Digit Eyes - 23-Nov-06 02:50 AM
This is perhaps the strangest Cyclotron release. "Station Rose" and "Digit Eyes" are different mixes of the same downtempo track with a woman singing the words "Digit Eyes" and "Smile" with a French accent, both very good, a little bit too slow for my taste though. It took me several listens to notice that this tune is not meant to be played at 45rpm. The track itself is very hypnotising with the vocals repeating, layered with nice and smooth sounding organs, a slo-mo breakbeat and oriental flutes, early trip-hop i would say. "Telepresence" is a banging techno track, not bad, but also not very spectacular in my opinion. "Dave" is definitely the highlight of the record. The vocals of this very psychadelic tune are taken from the German synchronisation of Stanley Kubrick's "2001 - A Space Odyssey". The spaceships board computer HAL 9000 is talking to Dave Bowman, the last remaining astronaut, while shutting down: "Dave, tu´s nicht. Lass es sein, bitte. Dave, hör auf! Ich bitte dich. Hör auf, Dave! Bitte, lass es sein! Ich habe Angst. Ich habe Angst, Dave...". The tracks on the b-side are surrounded by three cuts with weird loops, also sampled of Kubrick's movie.
Orbital - Omen - 04-Nov-06 09:27 PM
I can remember picking this one up in a store way back without listening. I did not know the track before, only bought it, cause it was Orbital. Later at home it blew me away completely. The female voice throughout the track is plain awesome, in the second part a male voice joins in the chant: "I've seen the future, I can afford it to tell you the truth, son, someone just bought it"
"Omen" is a bleepy, mystic and hypnotic track, my favorite Orbital work besides "Lush". It still can be played nowadays, it's a timeless classic!
John Carpenter & Alan Howarth - Prince Of Darkness (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - 06-Oct-06 02:32 AM
This is soundtrack is close to perfection. It's one of those few examples where the music makes the movie. From the technical point of view it is - as most of Carpenter's early works - a motion picture score that repeats its main theme throughout the movie, but varies it in a lot of ways: sometimes very dark and frightening, sometimes unbelievable beautiful and full of hope. In my opinion it's the most atmospheric soundtrack ever made. If you're either into John Carpenter's stuff or just love ambient music you'll have to own at least one copy.
