Oliver Klein - Club Game - 04-Jun-05 04:27 AM
A straight banger of a release here, this one goes straight for the throat.... just what you would expect from these two heavy players. The vocal sample tips the track into a slightly cheeky vein, but not enough to make you cringe. On the flip, the Nukem mix, made me stop and go "huh? did they make a pressing mistake? this sounds like Girls Can Be Cruel (Infusion)." On further inspection, yes Nukem sampled out the first 8 bars of the SQed mix (of Girls Can Be Cruel) and threw it into his mix, which is great if you wanted to mix out of the SQed mix and into this record... but for me, Ill probably spin the A side more often.
Shafunkers - Rhythm By Design EP - 20-Feb-05 04:53 AM
Cool little EP here from the Shafunkers, two lads who know how to get that tribal groove on. "Rhythm Design" and "Open Skies" are two deep, proggy pieces that will work well with your Distraekt/Older SAW/Addictive releases.
Amoeba Assassin - Housevisit - 20-Feb-05 04:21 AM
Andy Grays follow up to the Oakenfold favorite, "Piledriver" is pretty much the continuation of "Piledriver", just on this release the vibe takes a deeper, chuggy-ier direction. Male vocals are still predominately on display here (on the main mix, and non-existent on the dub mix), mixed over tight synth patterns and nice little drops here and there. Definitely not as timeless as "Piledriver" but still a good effort by Mr. Gray. "Blister" is a complete disaster in my mind, too spastic and nothing that really holds the track together properly enough to be used on a dance floor.
Freur - Get Us Out Of Here - 20-Feb-05 04:21 AM
Most people dont realize that Freur is Karl Hyde and Rick Smith (plus some other Flock Of Seagulls wannabes) first 80s synth pop band. Yes, this is Underworld before the addition of Darren Emerson. Yes this is horrible music, kind of funny actually if you think of where Underworld came from. So be warned. Interesting side note, Freur was the first group to actually use a unpronounceable symbol for their name.
Simon & Shaker & Ramos* Presents Sars - Overbooking - 05-Feb-05 11:29 AM
I love this label, this is your go to when you need your fix of heavy tribal progressive madness, and "Overbooking" is no different. The original is the heavier Simon & Shaker styled groove, where the D-Formation mix on the flip adds the bigger, uplifting vibe. Gotta love S and what they are doing for tribal proggy house.
