Profile: I was a techno/electro buyer for 611 Records in Philadelphia, PA. Now I DJ for several clubs in Philly. I spin a lot of different kinds of music: techno, house, electro, drum & bass. I like complex, textured rhythms with driving, basslines. I like dirty, tough, mean, banging, hard music. I don't like cheese or fluff. I don't follow the mainstream sound. I like music that some people call noise. I like mechanical sounds, but I also like tribal sounds. I like interesting, varied mixes, from chop-ups, to straight drops, to layered mixes. A majority of my mixing style is based on these techniques and EQing. I use both vinyl and Traktor.

This is what I always dream about doing.

Me and Nigel at Whistle 4 in Philly.

David Carretta - 04-Apr-05 05:47 AM
While he always captivated me with his haunting vocals and edginess (particularly the echoing subtlety, yet tough quality of "Neuropolitiks"), I was never so amazed as when I dropped the needle on "Kill Your Radio." Carretta is a master of electro-techno-acid-synth. The "Vicious Game" is another of my favorites with its dark, warped out bass.

Luke Slater - 04-Apr-05 03:36 AM
Luke Slater is my favorite of UK techno DJs/producers because of his rich, full sound, which is evident in both his mixing and producing. His ability to chop up, blend, and scratch through intricate beats & melodies puts him in a class of his own. His work is varied yet has a cohesive quality and a unique sound. His long-awaited first mix CD release, "Fear & Loathing" showed his techno side on one disc and his electro side on the other disc, and was recorded on three decks in one sitting. He can produce anything from hard techno (such as anything produced using his alias Planetary Assault Systems), to driving electro ("Wireless"), to electro synthpop ("Alright on Top").

DFA - 04-Apr-05 01:36 AM
DFA Records first caught my ear with releases by The Juan Maclean Band and LCD Soundsystem. Rock-infused electro melodies with tribal rhythms and stompy basslines, DFA quickly became one of my favorite electro labels. What I like about DFA is that it is complex electro, and not the typical cheesy pop beat with some deadpan droning voice and shocking lyrics. DFA Records seems to have a mood of celebration about it, as shown in songs like "Beat Connection," and "Daft Punk is Playing at my House." Even more serious subject matter such as "Tribulations," and "You Cant Have It Both Ways," amongst others, have a generally positive, upbeat vibe.

Nigel Richards - 04-Apr-05 01:31 AM
Nigel Richards is an extraordinary example of a dj with both talent and stage presence. He has both great charisma and energy when he plays. Old mixtape releases such as "Live in Tampa 1998," "Sex," and "Live @ Pitchblack" showcase his abilities to mix records through many different genres and techniques of mixing. Spinning anything from hard techno to groovy house to synthy electro and everything in between (and sometimes beyond), Nigel is also on the forefront in his productions. This carries on as he later releases "611 DJ Mix Series, Vol. 2," "Commemorative mix for the Whistle 3 party," and "Futurematic," where in each he mixes his own records with others. While his recorded mixes are superb, it is an absolute delight and far better to watch this man live.

Sulfurex - Point Break - 27-Mar-05 04:20 AM
This is how I like my acid! Aggressive warped out basslines and powerful, throbbing and driving techno make this my favorite release by Nigel Richards, who collaborated with acid-master Damon Wild for this record. There were two releases: one on Pure Dance records in Belgium and one on Extortion in UK. Unfortunately it is now rare and I am still on the hunt.
