Profile: I have been dj'ing since late 1997. My first gig was at Fantasy Ranch and it was very informal. I knew some of the dj's that were spinning there from frequenting house parties and clubs in the Tampa bay area at that time. I was given a short 30 minute set there, a bit of a trial run. I did very well considering I had only started about 6 months prior. Much fun. Since then, I have worked on a freelance basis, at many clubs such as The Edge, Empire, 1509, The Masquerade, Cream, Studio and The Pleasure Dome to name a few, not to mention countless house parties, including some birthday parties for some of the Buccaneers. I went on to do about a year of working alongside DJ Skillz at AV-02, formerly known as Studio, in downtown Tampa. Shortly thereafter I moved to New York to stay with a friend. In the process of going out clubbing up there, I managed to find work dj'ing at a club called Thunder's in Manhattan. I worked there for a few months, and despite the fact that New York is heavily dominated by house music and most club goers up there have never even heard of breakbeat, I was well received. I have also done a guest spot at Sharky's of Corpus Christi, Tx. While performing there, halfway through the night they had a fashion show with John Casablanca models from Tampa showing designs from a local and prominent clothing boutique. I have also done a guest spot in LA at an event called The Spaghetti Factory, where the headcount swelled to about 800, with about 15 dj's including myself from abroad in attendance. For about 3 years, I also had a weekly 2 hour show on an internet radio station known as Orbitalgrooves.com. I was the 6th dj to join that site. Since starting back in 2001, the site has grown to have over 500 dj's on its roster from all over the world hosting shows 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have over 22 live mixes that I have recorded from that show on my computer at home. I have also worked 2 live events for that site. The 1st and 4th annual Orbital Grooves Radio Anniversary parties. Each had over 15 dj's spinning from across the globe over the spanse of 2 days per event.
In addition to my growing list of clubs, parties and events that I have spun at, I also fancy myself as a producer of original electronic music. I began working towards this end in January of 2000. Since having started, I have produced 6 original tracks and 2 remixes, with countless projects that I have started, just waiting to be finished on my computer at home. I use my Playstation 2, my turntables with the massive arsenal of records that I have collected over the past 10 years (and have yet to completely catalog here on Discogs), a midi controller, a Korg Electribe which has 2 synthesizers and a drum machine built into one module, Acid 7, Reason 3, Rewire, Ableton Live, Sound Forge 9 and a 75 gigabyte sample library to produce my music. You can download and listen to 3 of my original tracks and 2 of my remixes at http://www.djfonik.com.
Since the electronic dance music scene has declined in the US, I had to find a different outlet for my music, so I am presently pursing a bachelor's of fine arts degree at the International Academy of Design & Technology in Tampa. If all goes well, I hope to eventually produce soundtracks for movies, commercials & video games.
