Underground Posse (2) - Master Mix 89 - 17-Feb-08 11:21 PM
This has got to be the greatest megamix of the 1980's ever released on vinyl, period. Mastermix being the next step up above a Megamix. If you like or collect electro megamixes, than this is a Must Have. Your collection is not complete until you have heard this "Mastermix". The Master Mix series were originally megamix cassettes released in the late 80's and sold at swapmeets and independent record stores across Los Angeles. Master Mix 89 was so well produced that half of each 30 minute mix became this 12" vinyl.

Various - Cutting Remixes - Vol. 1 - 18-Jan-08 02:57 AM
I first heard the "It's About Time" Remix of Hashim's "Al-Naafiysh" on the late night mixmasters radio show on "AM Stereo, K D A Y" in 1987. The track was mixed in after L A Dream Team's "Rockberry Jam". When I heard the "It's, It's, It's It's It's, It's Time/It's It's" and "Just Move Your Body To The Beat.... Feel It" I knew I had to have this remix! For the next two years I only had this remix on that tape of the Mixmasters Show recorded off the radio that night! All the time wishing that KDAY was an FM Radio station, as AM loses signal and sound quality at night (you could also hear other radio stations coming blending through). After finally finding the remix on a used copy of this remix album a few years later, I lost track of the cassettes I had recorded of the mixmasters show. This first remix of Al-Naafiysh is thee best IMO. Also, it would have been nice to have still had those old K D A Y Mixmaster Show cassettes recorded off the radio! :-)

Pretty Tony - Fix It In The Mix - 11-Jan-08 09:16 PM
This has got to be the greatest record ever produced by Tony Butler. Every year this record is still played and still get's the crowd dancing! I would rather own an original with a few pops and clicks than the almost identical looking bootleg. The bootleg has a glossy label and the "Manufactured by Sunnyview" text at the bottom of the label does not 'curve' properly compared to the original. Many of the bootlegs are being sold as 'still sealed'.

Guru (2) - Who You Stealin' From - 09-Dec-07 03:52 AM
Arthur Baker & John Robie, after many other artists making use of the styles and sounds they had introduced to the U. S., came out with this record, "Who You Stealin' From". The funny thing is, they were sued by Kraftwerk for the use of "Trans Europe Express" like strings & melodies incorported into "Planet Rock"... If you have a 33 1/3 RPM copy of Trans Europe Express & a turntable with +/-8% pitch control, just play the record at 45 RPM at -8%... hmmm.

Personally, I find Guru Beats I is the most useful track on this record, too bad it's under 3 minutes. The raw beat & "Get Off Your Ass And Jam" vocoder vocals are the best!!

Meco* - Star Wars And Other Galactic Funk - 20-Oct-07 03:45 PM
The disco rhythm in the beginning, before the "Star Wars" inspired music begins, reminds me of the theme from the "Chips" TV show. Cantina Band has got to be the greatest song on this record! It would be nice if it was easier to find and queue up (The entire A side is all one track and all). It would be even better if it was a bit longer. If you've never heard this record, than it's worth it just for to hear "Cantina Band". It would have made a great loop or sample for a house track in '93 when producers were making house records with that type of crazy "swing" sound!
