Reviews & Discussion:

Grooverider without doubt is one of the scene's best when reworking classic tunes. Piper the original had already established itself as a big time tune receiving huge DJ support up and down the UK, plus not forgetting the video which is still to this day being played on MTV. Now if you thought the original was bad, trust me this remix is even better. Grooverider starts the track in a moody and paranoia type fashion with it's dark intense melody, then followed by the snippet beats which make the intro feel like a angry robot is walking towards you. A slight pause for that 'Piper' vocal and then boom the drop kicks in with that heartbeat type bassline still accompanied by the moody melody, absolutely sick. Then a few bars later the melody fades out and the track becomes more menacing and rolling accompanied with some nasty stabs. Epic remix from the Great Grooverider.

The flip side 'Obedience' is over shadowed by the Piper remix some what, but you won't be disppointed putting your needle to this one. Like Piper this is very moody and dark, an intense roller for the masses who like a bit of dark DnB.

Quality 10inch release, and without doubt a piece of Drum n Bass history.

Don't hesitate, just buy it.
These tunes to my delight at the time moved drum n bass back into the darkness around 96/97 alongside tracks like Shadow Boxing by Doc Scott and Metropolis by Adam F. These also brought Future Forces (aka Maldini & D Bridge) into the big league, just before they grouped into the infamous Bad Company outfit. Dead by Dawn starts with a carefully constructed intro and then into some earth shattering dark side bass line pressure. Seriously big, which Randall absolutely championed back in the day. Point of Origin agains rolls out with smooth intro, and then drops into a throbbing sub low darker than dark bassline. As the track moves along the beats and bass get harder and more menacing, an absolute hardstep monster of a track. Both personal faves and will be in my collection for a long time. If you're looking into buying dark drum n bass this is a good starting point.
Oh my gosh!! This LP at the time was the measuring stick when it came to in you face hard and dark drum n bass. I have my personal faves from the 'The Germ' to John B's remix of 'Together'. Grooverider and Randall use to cain 'The Germ', and on a good system this sounded simply 'SICK'. This is what I call a screw your face up tune, hardstep darkness. The 'Together' remix is simply old skool John B at his best, and it's a shame he doesn't make drum n bass like this anymore. He could blend the rough with the smooth like no one else. There's other gems on here as well, the above were just my personal faves. A great LP, you need this in your collection!!
This is one of those releases that never received the acclaim or attention it deserves. What a tune 'The Presence' is!!!! If you like your drum n bass dark and rolling look no further. Not forgetting the flip side 'Re-Creation'. I remember hearing Grooverider dropping this on a live Radio 1 session, it was the stand out tune of his set for me. Rolling beats alongside some wicked bassline pressure which switches up as the record rolls along. A solid 12inch from Andy C and Ant Miles in their Concept 2 alias.
Chase & Status have certainly upped their game since moving to the Ram records stable. 'Hurt You' has a big vocal (nicely arranged) with driving beats and infectious bassline. A great DJ tool for adding energy to the dance. This one lit up the summer of 2007 in true Ram records style. 'Sell Me Your Soul' on the flip is a interesting dark little number, again well produced and big in it's own right.

If the Chase & Status LP due in 2008 is anything like this, it's going to be HUGE!!!!
To this very day I remember being at a drum n bass night back in the day and a DJ called Shock C dropped 'Truly One' in the dance and I made sure this was my first ever drum n bass record I purchased. What a tune, the beats and bass on this are simply heavy, which sound wicked on a good sound system. If your a Ram records fan I suggest you get this in your box. Origin Unknown at their very best.
What can I say, simply one of the best drum n bass albums in my opinion since the inception of the music. Andy C, Ant Miles and Shimon at their very best with very high standards of production indeed. Hard hitting dark beats with the atmospherics and feel making you come back to this time and time again. Will be in my box for a very long time. Let's hope one day Ram Trilogy follow this up, exceptional music.
