Profile: Martin Lucas began DJ'ing at University in 1998 when he invested a large part of his student loan in a set of decks, he began playing trance by artists such as Paul van Dyk, Matt Darey, Man With No Name, Transa, Grace and anything else on the Perfecto and Hooj Choons stables. Through these formative years at University Martin DJ'ed at various competitions and club nights and during this period Martin moved away from the trance sound that was becoming very commercial and started playing a deeper, more progressive sound, inspired by DJ's such as Sasha, John Digweed, Steve Lawler and Deep Dish. And it is playing this deep underground progressive sound that helped Martin get noticed.
Martin now includes international labels such as SAW Recordings, C2 Records (UK) / CR2 Records (UK), Subversive, Underwater Records, Yoshitoshi, Shinichi, Harlem Records, Junior London, Defected, Oxyd Records, Get Physical Music and Subliminal in his record box. Martin has never 'pigeonholed' the music that he plays - it is one of his strengths that he can adapt his sound to the environment - happily crossing between funky vocal house and up front, underground progressive depending on the event, the energy and mood of the crowd.
Since early 2003 Martin has put a lot more effort into his DJ'ing and as a result has played a number of club nights and events, most notably spinning with Lisa Loud and Steve Lee (Lee-Cabrera) in Washington DC, becoming a resident with an event based in Sussex called Reloc8 and having his own show on switch 105fm.
In September 2004 Martin began playing regularly for Route in Colchester and in February 2005 Martin started his online Internet radio show called Groove, which goes out online on the second Saturday of the month on Risefm.com. In august 2005 Martin was invited to DJ at Cafe Paradis in Ibiza, spinning a 3-hour set at the pre club bar for one of the islands most famous clubs, Es Paradis.
