Reviews & Discussion:
This is an absolutely rockin' cut! Wonderful beats, groovy fret bass, topped with flourishing strings make this the ultimate opener to the peak hour. If this one can't get the ladies in on the dancefloor moving, than I have no clue what will.
I'll admit, I was somewhat uneasy about this release from Soulfuric when I originally sampled it months ago, however, in time, that uneasiness has shifted to undying appreciation. With 4 mixes on here, Raul serves up flavorful selections for the chill sessions, build up, and peak hour moments... DJ Jeroenski Remix, the Furic Soul Dub, Nighttime Mix, and Daytime Mix, respectively. Much to the same respect of Graham & Blades' 'Funky Summa', Amazonica is melodically simple (in this case based upon a 4/4 progression of 4 chords), yet the layering of flavors gives it a delectable complexity filled with energy and funky bounciness. Love it!

Of many white label I've sampled, this one stands out and shines above all others! Absolute ingenious work by Chris Conway aka DJ Ludikris. I was actually said to find out he lost money on this press, as it apparently didn't sell very well; quite dissapointing, as it has some great hooks. Hands down, my favorite is the A Side remix. The track is very slick and clean sounding, mastered exceptionally well for a white label press, and features a very catchy 4/4 with a superimposed breakbeat, layered with a simple yet sexy deep drop bassline. All-in-all, if you can get your hands on one of the few limited copies still rampant around the globe, it's worth it's cost! This one's a real head-turner and body shaker!

This is such a wonderful release. Definitely two of Grant Nelson's finest reworks! The only real gripe I have is why this wasn't pressed on virgin vinyl. The noise gets in the way in a few spots. Minor gripe, thanks to the noise reduction abilities of digital conversion, but, it would have been nice if the pressing was treated with as much care as Grant put into the tracks!
Still a gemm either way though!
As Defected stated, an essential track of 2006! What I really love about this record is that it captures that 'old school' house sound from the '97-'99 period. Yes, there is some repetitiveness, but it's a pleasant one. The A side original mix is mainly just something I'll listen too because although the instrumentation is nice, I could honestly care less for the drumkit. The AA side mix by Pete Heller, on the otherhand, is an old school beauty. The drumkit is really nice, as well as the watered-down instrumentation. What really makes this mix a done deal are the vocal one shots and samples, which in of themselves are an instrument. Great track, especially for the 'old school' house enthusiast!
Max Graham vs Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart (The Max Graham Smack My Bitch Remix)

Both sides of this record were nice, but I have a few problems with it. While the A side original is a great little track, it was mastered in a weird way leaving the wax copy to be hardly useful in a set sometimes. My only real gripe about this is on the flip side, the guitar work is quite shotty, although I love the vocal work.
Must say, one of the essential Funky Breakz tracks of 2006! The A side "Bless My Soul" grooves along with some infectious piano flourishes and bass stabs to make it peak hour material; very upbeat track. On the flip side, "Submission" makes this record a done deal with a very chilled-out jazzy beat, vocal one-shots and filtered pianos. To finish it off, "Friends 'Til The End" dips into a little bit darker territory with some low-end synth work, deep bass and melodic tunes. This record is must for anyone collecting breakbeats!
I absolutely LOVE this record! I'm attached to the record for two reasons is, well, for one, I am Greek, and two, the name makes it such a novelty; but beyond that, it definitely is a great sleeper track. Great bouzouki guitar melodies similar to Greek folk music set the tone for a very melodic mediterranean sound. The A side is nice for the full bouzouki melody, however my preference is the B Side for its peak time energy. If you're Greek, this a definitive track for your collection! It's definitely become my signature track at the club.
In my opinion, probably the best record of this year. It gets a play every week at the club from me. This release, already a discontinued press, is a really bangin' funky peak time track. The A side is prominantly known for its sampling of the riff from the 'Ghosterbusters Theme' and for its pumping bassline, which is unmatched by most other house tracks I'e heard; if nothing else gets people dancing, this one will. The B side is a tad more minimal, although it wouldn't deter me from playing it... its simply that if you grab this record, the A side is the winner! | ||||
