Sasha - Xpander EP
Feb 17, 2009
Dont get me wrong this is an awesome 4 tracker and I love all the songs but what is all this rubbish about Sasha creating this unbelievable track "expander" ?
Expander is a great track but if your into your Prog house, you may remember it in the back of your head. Pull out the "live" mix of Spooky "little bullet" and you will notice it was produced my Charlie May (the man who Sasha worked with on "Expander") You'll soon realise that expander is just remix. If you don't believe me do a search on Youtube.

Shirley Lewis - Feel Alright

Back in the mid 90's this was my ultimate "want", I struggled like hell tracking down this tune. the reason, no one used its proper name.
I'd be in clubs in the early 90's and I'd desperately asked people the name of said track when it was played. They'd all shout back "yeh top tune" its called "get crazy" by Shirley Lewis, got it on a boot. Back then before the world wide web & things like discogs, youtube and ebay, all we really had was the unfriendly guy in the local record shop or the HTF catologue. I eventually got this from DMF (remember them) on a trip down to Brum and was well chuffed. as soon as it was ided I owned my first copy for the bargain price of £20. I got home and checked my bible (the HTF catologue lol) there it was... staring bsck at me with the name no one used. looking back its not surprising really as all the bootlegs of the time called it "get crazy" by Shirley Lewis. Thanks god I do now own it...And yes, I use its proper name. Top tune, top memories...

The House instrumental, What can I say
A huge Hacienda anthem and massive ever since at oldskool club nights across the North Of England. I still remember the first time I heard this in a large warehouse full of sweaty ravers.. The haunting strings, the bongo's, the "skip" of the record & then the violins and bass.. From there, the piano just seems to build on a simple key with the "baby, alright" vocal A tune you just want to dance to, fuck it not dance, jump around to like a loon with your mates. A true classic, you'll never hear anything like it but it just sounds so right. A great example of a remix that everyone knows & prefers, but never got a full release.
The Danny Tenaglia mix is spot on for the era although i'm still loving the b-side 15 years on (are them long sweaty nights in "Back 2 Basics" really that long ago)
Dance With Me samples "come on, come on...Dance with me" from Age Of Love "Age Of Love" & the screams, moans & strings from Moby's "go" mixed in to one hell of a cool repetative groove... Get down to this amazing groover...It will take you back to 1993/1994, when hot & dark underground clubs flourished playing funky dirty house music...On night long

Head for the David Morales Classic Club mix (Does what it says on the tin)
Happy vibes this one, if you ever went to the Hacienda, Hard Times, Love to Be, Back to Basics, Cream or Ministry of Sound around 94/95/96 you would have heard this and sung along, an absolutely beautiful record with an amazing vocal that really touches the soul. a huge end of the night, send everyone home happy type of tune. All the big US house DJ's & the British "US House" dj's including Graeme Park & Tom Wainright (what ever happened to him) hammered it. This is one of my personal favourite from that era and I will always have fond memories of it.
Bassheads - Is There Anybody Out There?

Always loved this tune, everything about it from the start through to the build up & subsequent piano, the samples of Afrika Bambatta & the cheeky samples on the original promo.
Anyway if you weren't about in the early 90's you missed a treat. In 1998 we went down to Cream in Liverpool and got in there pretty early about 9/9.30PM. Idiots were causing trouble and the bouncer were ejecting people left, right and centre... Bad vibes throughout. Anyway Paul Bleasdale put this on about 10pm and the atmosphere changed by the time the piano kicked in, everyone was smiling, punching the air and going mental....Totally changed the night!!! Another fond memory after the original one's back in the day!!! House classic's don't come much bigger than this!!!
Everybody has something to embarrassed about and if I was Alexander Coe, this would be it... absolute pompus rubbish played by the man himself (or son of god as he's been previous called)
This would be one of the worst records to ever get played at night clubs in the early 90's. What were all those ravers @ Shelleys thinking off when dancing to it. This is very much a record for the die hards out there who's entire life is focused on owning every record ever played by Alexander Coe in the good old days.
As rare house records go this is up there with any of the tunes Sasha played back in the day at Shelleys.
My first experience of the tune was when I heard Dj Nipper play it and I've loved it ever since. This has all the hall marks of a one of the greatest Italian house tune of all time, the great bassline, huge "hands in the air" piano, the badly put together production that somehow sounds right and the cheeky Ice T sample from "The Hunted Child" http://www.discogs.com/release/231569 In the early 90's even the bootleg changed hands for big money. The rumour was that if American Records had released this after the highly successful Last Rhythm "Last Rhythm" AMR 0038 (as opposed to Techno Age's AMR 0037) they would have sold a shedload...looking at the members who want this ... IT MUST BE TRUE ! ! !
Wow what a tune..from the first bar to the chorus.
This is dreamy Italian house at its best... a lovely rhythm, mellow piano's and a crazy chicken sound with the awesome "this is paradise" chorus that resinates around a club. This is all that is good about Italian house before it died! If you love: Don Carlos "Alone", Funk Machine "I've Closed The Door & any mellow house sounds.......This is Paradise!!!! | ||||
