As Artifakts (BC) marked the begining of my interest in minimalist electronica, this release marks a little bit of a rebirth for me. This seems to be more experimental regarding the textures created and is quite ominous and menacing at times with his own distorted voice used to full, and some would say detremental, effect. Yet this album retains an overall sound somehow warmer then the previous consumed LP.

A collection of 10 tracks based on a road trip taken by New York based artist Plumbline from LA to New York. This concept album of sorts is built on with raw sounds and synth work. Human voices open the album, but are rarely used beyond the role of 'highly manipulated external noises'. There is a heavy use of simplistic melodic repetition that is itself broken with rythmns based on anything other than a beat. This is a really enjoyable album rewarding listeners in a capacity of either background or foreground music.

The Hive debut LP 'explores the underbelly of groove'. This attempt to play their version of energetic live techno/drum and bass and bits of house is well done. Having seen them live many a time, it doesn't manage to capture all they have to offer but it is a good sample nontheless. The album moves through drum and bass, techno, jazz house and dub.

An Australian live drum and bass outfit with dub tendancies. The Hive have officially changed their name to Baggsmen to avoid confusion with Swedish act The Hives.

Bassman - Minimal Distraction - 08-Aug-03 08:13 PM
Bassman, aka johannes strobl opens this album with the tosca / peace orchestra / k like 'On the Corner' giving an vienna beat boys a run for their money. It sets the tone for the rest of the album which mixes broken beats, dub, electronica, funk and some lyrics for good measure. This is Bassman's first release on fabrique records.
