Profile: I've been collecting Hip Hop, House, Soul, Funk & Dance music since the early 80's. A few years back my wife told me that the turntable had to go, and with that, my record collection was put in storage. I've hung onto them for long enough now, and I've decided to give them new homes. If you have any questions about any of my records, feel free to ask. I'm selling my cds now as well. They're taking up too much room. (audio samples of my cds are available on request)

B.B. & Q. Band* - Genie - 25-Jul-09 12:52 PM
If you’re a fan of 80’s soul & funk, you’ll probably remember this album from its first release back in 1985. This is a re-issue of the ‘Genie’ album, but bundled in with the original track line up are a host of remixes by the likes of Shep pettibone and Ben Liebrand. Some of these remixes were released as 12” singles following the original release of the album. The bands lead vocalist, Curtis Hairston had one of the most underrated voices of that era. There’s no doubt about it, he was a class act. His performance on this album is outstanding. Even with the added bonus of all the extra remixes, the title track ‘Genie’ IMO is still the pick of the bunch on this release. Curtis sadly passed away at the young age of 34 in 1996 after losing his battle with diabetes. What a waste of a talent. This album is actually dedicated to him. In closing, if you want to replace your old vinyl copy of ‘Genie’ you can’t go wrong with this…
2 Live Crew, The - 2 Live Is What We Are - 14-Jul-09 07:13 PM
This release is from when The 2 Live crew were a serious hip hop act and this is a straight up hip hop album from the days before all that stupid swearing shit. Except for We Want Some Pussy of course. Good production, accompanied by very decent cutting & scratching with some good quick fire rapping as well. Shame they went the way they did with later releases. I rate this as one of the best hip hop albums in my collection.
AC Soul Symphony - What's Happening - 26-May-09 03:29 PM
The multi talented Dave Lee teams up again with fellow Sunburst band member Pete Simpson. This time in the guise of AC Soul Symphony, to provide us with this classy soulful house offering. It’s a classic up-tempo Dave Lee production topped off with silky smooth vocals from Mr Simpson. I’m listening to the track as I write this review. It’s the musical equivalent of being fed grapes by a beautiful woman. What more could you want?
Joey Negro - Nite:Life 08 - 13-Feb-09 02:15 PM
I’m a mix album aficionado and this is by far one of the best in my collection. If you’re into deep, sexy, soulful house then you’ll find the track selection on this album pure quality. I can’t say there’s a bad track on the album. The only thing I will say is, I find the final track an odd choice, only because it’s not in the same vein as the rest of the album. Highlights for me are: David Bendeath, Miguel Migs, Brothers Of Soul and Kenny Bobien. Honestly though, it’s all good. Joey Negro (real name Dave Lee) is a very talented artist, producer and remixer. He is also an expert on the decks. The mixing on this album is sublime. A seamless 74 minutes of music which flows effortlessly from one track to the next. This album comes highly recommended.
Africa Bambaata And The Soul Sonic Force* - Planet Rock - 12-Feb-09 09:43 PM
I was 14 years old when this was released in 1982. I first heard it a year later when one of my school mates got hold of a copy of “The perfect Beat” album. For me, this is a real landmark track from the early electro days. It starts off with what later turned out to be probably the most sampled hip hop vocal intro ever. With Arthur Baker’s high production values, stabbing orchestral riffs, driving bassline, haunting keyboards, sound effects and a relentless rap by The Soulsonic Force “Mr. Biggs Pow Wow & MC Globe” this track is without doubt a hip hop classic. There have been various remixes since its first release, but none for me have surpassed the original extended version. I still play it regularly to this day….
