Einstuerzende Neubauten* - Haus Der Luege - 13-Mar-06 08:53 AM
One of the more accessible cd's by Neubauten. Has "feurio!" on it which is quite a stomper. Outstays it's welcome on this 47 minute cd a bit with three versions of itself appearing here. The other (albeit short) tracks which make this a worthwhile effort are a bit less dance oriented and a bit more... creative.
Shpongle - Are You Shpongled? - 13-Mar-06 04:46 AM
Read these sounds like a data being read by a computer drive - full of information! I swear, the beats in this manipulate brainwaves in such a way as to help induce a trance. Listening to this on headphones puts you on another plane; your mind focuses on an individual instrument, becomes one with it. Understand the size of I; make yourself very small; turn off all the switches coz thats what we really are: Something small that patches into everything. This cd helps reign it all back in - A sort of aide to concentration. Become really small and understand - understand everything.
Einstürzende Neubauten - Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T. - 13-Mar-06 03:08 AM
Chilling discordant splings and splangs lead into throbbing percussion and occassionally compliment it in conjunction with strained german vocals that evolve into chants. Nice. Jarring disorientating. Vocals guide you through a dimly lit hospital corridor you stuggle to navigate on account of being fed too much medication. A short and not so sweet voyage into insanity, ever wondered what it sounds like in the mind of a man restrained by a straightjacket, confined to a padded cell? Hear this and you might understand why anyone would ever have to do such a nasty thing. Machines are at work here; throbbing alien probes? Your dance to this are the spasms of someone dying from over exposure to insect poison! A very, very cool cd.
Download - Effector - 13-Mar-06 03:07 AM
A budding interest in consciousness altering substances and obvious references to same in the track titles on this cd led to the proverbial opening of my third eye. That Key was involved in making music more suited to "higher" planes (however you got there) totally seemed to make sense as THE next step after Puppy. I think he retained a lot of integrity in taking a step in that direction. If what the Puppy did was wallow in despair and anger at the human condition, then Downloads Effector reflects on the process of overcoming, and perhaps even, "beat"ing it.
Jah Wobble • Bill Laswell - Radioaxiom – A Dub Transmission - 09-Mar-06 03:30 AM
This has enough moments that give you goose bumps. I love the echo/ reverb on the trumpet - an instrument I loathe to hear in any music. In fact, many of the (pretty traditional) instruments, seem treated with some sort of effect or other giving it a very spacey feel. (Foreign) vocals (also treated?) accompany two of the tracks, and are not of this world - incredible! If you are in search of music to accompany your forays into altered states of consciousness, give this a try. It even has two luminous looking mushrooms on the cd cover. When I put this on I can imagine being at a lapa, surrounded by bush and the sounds of african wildlife, drinking cocktails to the sound of running water as a cool evening approaches.... Very relaxed, mysterious, emotional and refreshing!
